One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

The latest from Neal. Fenders are pretty much done. Inners are done. Air filter box is rebuilt. The core support has a much larger relief for the intake.

And now we transition to the rear.

Meanwhile, my dad and I are about to Roadkill a pretty cool truck back home to TX. I need a good piece of gear to run this year's AZ trip for Powerstop. I'll make a prep thread; I think y'all are really going to like it.

Weird seeing the suburban cut up like this, but it’s going to be beautiful when done.

Can’t wait to see what the new piece of gear is.

Has any one used crew cab carpet in the front and middle sections of a suburban? I'm doing Seymour's 2K Bedliner in the rear, and don't need to spend the extra $200 for that section of carpet.

Getting my LMC and AMD orders together...

get the acc from rockauto. I was able to buy just the front & middle sections for my burb. Ship directly from ACC

Flipped the truck around. This is the first look at the whole thing in the light.

This is down on the bumps with the axle crammed to the engine crossmember. Ride is about 5.5” higher. Getting it lower without losing travel is enticing, but will have to wait.

I'm in for the lowering the ride height without loosing travel, my old man version of my truck is going to need it. I don't see it being possible with the current frame. I have dreams of chopping it off at the cab mounts and tubing forward.

The idea I have floating is to cram the 60 against the oil pan, remake the engine crossmember, notch the frame for the panhard and drag link, and S bend the panhard. I reckon that yields ~2”.

To get more, the engine, axle, and steering box will need to move.

If I had the skills back in the day to do this I bet that is what I would have done. That being said my engine is up I believe 1.5 inches higher then stock, a ORD small block cross member and the front diff bumps a 1/4 below the balancer. I'm not sure what I could do other then moving the axle forward and doing some witch craft.
