One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

This is on my to-do list for next week. Ordered.
I think I’m going to use them on the glove box assembly, too. Wherever a single panel secures only to sheetmetal.

2 and a shirt pre-ordered
Muchas gracias!

New dome lights. The truck will have three sets of two. It’ll be bright enough to put on a stage play.

Grill assembled.

Big day tomorrow and Saturday.

I had been considering using rivet nuts for things like this, but I'm not familiar with these sheetmetal screws. Did you consider rivet nuts at all? Curious what your thoughts are.

The Suburban is looking phenomenal, by the way :waytogo:

For the glove box, it might be as a little tight to use a riv-nut. The panel just isn't very big. So far, these work well and the "cinch down" has a real good feel to it. The screw also doesn't lose it's torque quite as quickly when backing it off.

Can't be in Texas without Whataburger.
Accurate. Mine always gets jalapenos.

Interior is just about done.

Bumpers, misc electrical, gauges, radio, last minute SCS details, suspension, wheels and tires, have a beer, pack it up, head west.

Is it just the pic or does that roof rack design make it look lower? Obviously it is low for the tire size but that last pic looks even lower.

I am pretty sure the whole project is about making it lower for the size of the tire, and it's a success in every way in my book

The truck is on the bumps. Springs go in today. It will be another 1” lower than it was previously.

Is that one of those quick lifts? Been looking at those as my shops roof is at 8’ but I could put it outside the shop or do the Camaro and rzr inside with it.

Great thrashing David! Balls to the wall this week!

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the “8XL” going here?

The 8XL is pretty much a light bar. We just ran the power to this bulkhead which was where the old 1987 car phone antenna was.

Scissor style, and super quick!

Thinking I won’t make it to sema,
This is a bummer, but Dino’s is a better goal for the truck. We’re still hitting Kingman Sunday.

Guess we will have to get the old girls together in Moab.

Nice, I thought of making a similar piece for mine because it blocks some of the airflow from coming from under the hood back through the radiator, and forces the fan to pull the cooler air from the front, your looks better than what I was thinking, though the holes will likely defeat some of the purpose, they look a lot better.
