Ya, I get the looks all the time too with the welded rear. I don't really care though. I run my MTR's at 40 PSI in the rear though to help them scrub and chirp less. It used to be horrible with the BFG AT's and MT's I ran previous.

The welded does kinda suck when you are on the way home from the trail with 15 PSI in my tires. Turning corners is much more noticable. Oh well, that is the price I pay for the welded rear. I can live with it so its all good.

Do you have a manual?

I know that I really feel the locker in my DD (it's a ford ranger, 5 speed)

Seems to me you might not feel it with an auto, but I feel a click on every shift.

700R4. The welded is great because it acts the same all the time. I have been in trucks with locked rears on the street. Both manual and auto. The manual you definilty notice more then the auto.

My locker acts the same all the time too. I know how to control it and it works the same every time. Just have to get used to knowing what will make it lock and what won't. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

Wheeled forever with an open diff/gov bomb in the rear 14 bolt, now I'm 1 ton with a detroit in the rear. Made one trip with that and I said screw it, I want a front locker!

Should be a good install along with the Spicer life series U joints I've got for the front axle that I bought from Jesse @ High Angle.

Hell I could put gas in it and drive it to badlands right now if I wanted to...

I'll install the lock right next weekend, and hopefully the bumpers/winch the following weekend and then its AWN for badlands. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My truck has been up and going for almost a month now...it was down for mods for a while with the 1 ton swap and stuff but it's ready to rock now.

I've made so many comments on LockRights it's getting redundant...

But I've got them in both my ten bolts. World of difference when driving in the woods. Front locker is a bit annoying on the street in the snow.

They let me worry about momentum less and let me play on things I never would've if I had open differentials. It's a lot harder to get stuck.

For $475 to my door I got two LockRights and less than 5 hours later I had a completely different vehicle. The only other comparison I can think of is when you go from 31" mall terrains to 33" mud terrains.

To install them you have to pull the drive front axle shaft out of the carrier. For the rear you have to pull the opposite tire out. (you leave the ring gear side axleshaft in). In the rear it'd be an hour job with drum brakes. It took me two because I have rear disc and it required me to pull my tire and caliper off.

I've been told that I'm going to have to pull the carrier out to put it in my '60, which sucks, but at least I don't have to set up the gears. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Not true, I had the lockright in my 60 in 30 minutes from diff cover off to diff cover on. Didnt even need to pull the axle shafts. The 70 is a different story though.

I don't know how you would get it in without pulling an axle out, but I didn't have to pull the carrier to get it in. I did pull the carrier, but not because I couldn't get the lock rite in. Seems like I've heard that you do in some cases, maybe if you run thick gears, or certain gear ratios.

I’ll avoid commenting on the Lock-Rite since you already know what happened to me…

Its close and you have to make sure both axleshafts are pushed out as far as possible. All pieces of the lock right fit in between the axleshafts.

Yeah I know that's one place I think Dana messed up. Roll pin is just plain wrong.

They definitely did the right thing using a solid pinion bearing spacer, but the Bendix brakes and that roll pin are two things that the D60 would be better without IMO.

Use 3/4 ton brakes. It has been done. Uses 3/4 ton calipers and rotors. So parts are cheaper. No more Bendix brakes to deal with.

No thanks. I did my bendix brakes and I'm done with them. I cannot understand why anybody would downgrade in braking power just to make their brakes easier to service though.

If there was a setup at a decent price that used normal calipers and was the same size as the D60 calipers, I'd be all for it, but I think downgrading your braking power is the wrong answer.

Bendix brakes do suck, but once you figure it out, It's really not THAT bad.

I've got all new calipers/pads and I turned my rotors at work so I'm good to go with my bendix brakes for quite some time. At least until I install my 5-806x axle joints. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Also, that roll pin goes out only one way. Drive it out from the ring side... It looked easier to go the other way, but I soon found out otherwise. I didn't have a punch the right size that was long enough, so I used the short one to get it started, then used a piece of steel rod the right size to drive it on out.

put an eaton posi in my /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif after i tore the old stock posi up, the old one used to chirp around cornerd bad and this one doesnt chirp but i still get stares from the noise

alot of open roads around here, so when i get stares, i give them something to watch /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
