Overkillz Dune Truggy Build

I have done cages in some time attack cars, basically SCCA type cars that really don't have a class.

Never used anything bigger than .090, saw the aftermath of a rollover at 100+ cage fared just fine, car not so much. :D:D

The key to building light is to really thing about everything.

Like for instance the windshield, it weighs I bet upwards of 30 lbs if not more. Plexi is lighter.

I have used seatbelt tabs that have a hole in them so you have to put them on the tube before you bend ( well its easiest) but allow you to use lighter gauge tubing for the seatbelt bars

vortec 062s with 2.02/1.60 with std sbc intake pattern drilled in the faces, std team G, trw pistons with like 10cc dome, 5.7 rods and cast crank. The cam only can have .500 lift or it will have valve to piston problems. I have the cam card some where. Honestly made 450hp with a holley 500cfm 2bbl.

Man think of how much more power it would have made if the intake ports even relatively matched up nice w/ the right intake... :doah:

Looking forward to seeing the monstrosity :D

Ok, ill look for .120, if we do DOM it will be all 1 size, because I definately cant affor multiple dies.

But we are not dropping that kind of dough for tube. If pipes heavy and it doesnt go fast enough.....

We will just need to put a bigger motor in :waytogo::D

5.3 with a junkyard blow dryer will push you fast, especially in the sand.

5.3's are cheaper than the 6.0s, have better heads and a forged bottom end. Throw a turbo on it from a cummins truck, cheap $100 ebay inter cooler and get to work doing the fab thing to make the exhaust and you'll have a really fast cheap whip.

Oh yah forgot. When I got to the shop at 7, it looked like this half hour later :D

Good call! I just remembered I read an article in Chevy High Performance about a stock bottom end 4.8L that made over 1000hp with just a chinese turbo on it, now thats some cheap hp!

When's the maiden voyage?

I would LOVE to have it up labor day weekend. But at this point idk if its gonna happen. We are all pretty whipped after work to do more than a few hours work. And we will be loosing this saturday for my little bros going away to college paintball beerfest, and lose the first half of sunday recovering im sure. Gonna keep picking away at it. We decided on just buying a new carb and not effing around with old junk. (prolly be the most expensive piece lol). Whats a good qjet for stock 350 tbi motor (going to have to get different intake, i do have an old 2 barrel one, could we get enough power through that?)

Why not just run the TBI?

Martin

Because the tbi is on his new motor in his truck. And because a carb is so much more simple and we dont have electronic crap to break or get wet, as the thing will live outside. No room inside anywhere. We want simplicity at its finest :waytogo:

blazinzuk mentioned the plexi windshield, if you dont have a passenger you can do half a plexi windshield also. lighter wieght (not by much) and more airflow.

Or just ditch the windshield and wear goggles :D

Or better yet find some old 70's 3/4 street bike helmets with the bubble face shields :pimp: :haha:
