Phil's '88 Big Blue Build Thread

Whoever you borrow a bearing separator from has the torque wrench.

Maybe you need beer, like a case or two

Phil, I have a 4.10 10.5" gear set currently sitting in an axle that supports a trailer. Nobody would miss it if I pulled them out and mailed them to you...

Does he need either of these? Or are they just nice to have?
I usually change the carrier bearings, so that's nice.
Good to pull the pinion shims out the check the thickness when setting the depth on the new gear

Well, I'd certainly use them, but I don't know if it would be worth the effort for you to get them out. I imagine it's pretty much a bitch to pull that apart.

Nah, he's tired of house work

Not really. 14 bolts on the cover, 6 on the pinion support, 6 inside holding the carrier. Axle shafts are already gone, and I'd let you mess with the pinion net.

1/2 hr of work at most. Make me am offer, they're not worth much to me...

One more thing I forgot...this set is missing its yoke. So I could easily separate the pinion from the housing. Even easier than I had first thought.

Hahaha.

Yeah, that is true. I think mechanical therapy time will be making a comeback in the next few months.

At some point I hafta run out of house work , right?
Don't EVER ask that question where your wife can hear!

If you guys do this, be a champ and keep the races to the side it came off. Shouldn't matter, but...

I can use the ones I have in mine already, right? I'm just putting in his ring and pinion.
