Phil's '88 Big Blue Build Thread

But seriously, I took my '90 Jimmy to BB14, and we did flat iron mesa and top of the world with 33's , no lift, just trimmed rear bumper and a rear gov-loc.
Every once in a while there may be a place that you could get brush marks 9 the paint though. Mostly, that can be avoided.

Thanks brotha. I'm not worried about paint scrapes and such. Even minor ruffling around the edges, lol. I'd like to avoid major cave ins.

That shouldn't be a major concern. But, I would suggest talking with other guys about trail selection. And the BBQ helps a lot too, so does registration /check in gathering.
Where's @$500K5 ? Pat can help TONS!
I don't know if I tagged him correctly.

I kid. All of the dents that I donated to that unit were Colorado in origin.
Other than some tail dragging and a broken rear driveline, that unit didn't get much rock rash in Moab.

I know. Blazer Bash has me a little scared. hahaha
If I can run a crew cab in Moab for 3 years without a dent, you can safely figure you'll be fine. Golden Spike and Pritchett are the only 2 trails on the list this year that I can see presenting much opportunity for body damage and even those trails aren't a sure bet for it. Plus when everyone sees a "pretty" truck on the trail they all jump in to help keep it that way; we can all appreciate the pride in a nice looking truck.

I've done Poison Spider, Kane Creek, Hells Revenge, Fins and Things, and Seven Mile Rim, With 33's, No Lift, and rear locker. I've done Moab Rim with 33's, no lift, and front and rear lockers. I've done Golden Spike, and Gold Bar Rim, with 2" of lift, 33's, and lockers. All with NO dents. Only body mods prior, were bottom of front fenders trimmed, and bottom of rear quarters trimmed. Beefy front and rear bumpers, rocker sliders, and beefy transfer case crossmember. IMG_5686.JPG IMG_5714.JPG

You're welcome. There are many trails that you can run, with your lift and tires, with no body damage. Just make sure that your bumpers, and rocker sliders are strong enough to stay out of the body with lot's of weight on them. Most of the time, damage to your fenders can be caused by tire rub at flex, and turning. Just try it out with a buddy watching the tires as they work. Urbin Curbin!! Fork lifts are a great way to check for rub, at full flex. Tire size can be made up for in great working suspension, steering, and wheel placement. Believe it or not this flex, is with stock springs..........

Wow, I don't think mine flexes that well. The 4" kit was a Zone kit, the cheap line from BDS. I did run the front tires up on a forklift at work, and I couldn't get them to rub. But I may not have pushed it hard enough. I'm sure it will be OK though. Both bumpers will be good RLC ones by then. My sliders are DIY4X ones that don't go to the frame, so i dunno about those. I'll have my rear Spartan locker in by then. Pondering a front limited slip.

Anyway, I'm not all that worried. It's what i bought it for. If weak spots show up, then fix them for 2017. Really looking forward to it.
