Phil's '88 Big Blue Build Thread

I'll keep my eyes open.

I sold the same damn axle last year for $250 and it took me over a month to sell it!

Story of my life. lol. That one on the WFO site was perfect too, came with 4:10!!!!!

Do you want the hubs from me?

Martin

Well, yeah, doesn't look like an 8 lug axle is going to show up any time soon. If I do find one I can pass the parts on to someone else that needs them, but looks like I'll be using them.

Okay. I was going to keep the rotors (that's what I tore the axle apart for originally). I was going to send you the hubs and the backing plates. Do you need anything else?

Martin

I'm not sure what all I need. lol. But 8 lug rotors are pretty cheap from o'Reilly's. That's pretty much all I'll need, eh?

Oh, and Calipers, but those aren't much either.

There is one listed here, but $675 for an 8 lug dana 44 with the wrong gears. Screw that.

That's retarded. I see them $200-300 with 4.10's fairly often during the winter when people aren't wheeling as much.

Are the spindles the same, and just the wheel bearing different from the 1/2 ton stuff?

Remember changing wheel bearings on a 3/4 burb, had to order them since they weren't the same

The early external hub Dana 44's have different parts than the internal hub Dana 44's.

Martin

Not sure, remember the burb was an 84 10 bolt.
Nows a good time to make sure, before he has a pile of puzzle pieces

the interwebs says you need a big bearing spindle if you're upgrading from a 10 bolt 1/2 ton axle. Apparently the later D44's are already big bearing based on that tech article I posted above.

I can send you the spindles as well.

Why not just look up the parts numbers for bearings for a 1987 V10 and a 1987 V20?

Martin

My understanding is that 10 bolts all have the big bearings (and thus Phil would already have big bearing spindles), as do later D44s. That is what I found when I tore apart the front of my 1984 K10 to do this swap. Same bearings, no problems found.

Read through my Suburban thread if you want pictures of it all coming together.
