Looking good!! Is it a universal crossmember or one made for the studebaker?

It's universal, I need to build the inside frame width out to meet the 28" called out for the crossmember.

Started getting the frame cleaned up to weld in the crossmember
And drilled out the lower control arm hole for this bolt sleeve to be welded into along with the gusset.
The sleeve is 1.062" diameter with a .630" hole giving it a .216" wall thickness, should be plenty stout.
And a bit of mockup.

Been working on a couple things. Started on the pieces that will create straight, flat frame sections for the crossmember and cut out the rest of the firewall because I finally decided what I'm going to do with it.
I left a flange all the way around where the original sheet metal overlapped on the firewall and I'm going to fit and weld in a new flat piece with a recess for the motor.
The new firewall will meet underneath where the wiper motor is mounted, it's straight all the way across that section.

Spent most of sunday on the car getting the frame plates ground and fit to the odd contour. Then I was able to lightly tack the crossmember in, I'll have to remove it to plate under the old spring pocket but I just wanted to see it in there real quick.
The factory suspension had the arms swept back from the springs which is why it appears they don't line up.
Also attached the lower control arm, spindle and hub to get an idea of how low it might be. I'm glad I'm putting in the ride height adjusters this time because I don't want it super slammed where it gets impractical to drive, but I'm liking it so far.

Then began work on the outside of the frame, first by making partial fill plates for the original spring pockets.
After those were welded in I drew a line parallel with the edge of those plates along the top and bottom of the frame and cut out the rest of the spring pockets.
Also made a firewall template.
And received my master cylinder/prop valve assembly from wilwood to go along with the pedal I purchased awhile ago.
I also made a big decision to go with a completely different style wheel on the car. I just wasn't liking the one I had bought before and wanted something more aggressive looking so I picked up 4 17x9 matte black D-window steel wheels that are slightly too wide for the body so I'll be doing some fitting to make them work. The plan is to run a 245/40 or 245/45 all around.

Pretty cool frame progress, and really like the new MC pedal combo! Not a fan of the new rim choice...I think the first one you chose was much better looking. Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it's your car. They look like cheap truck rims to me. 
The wheels seem like a down grade to me as well.

I kinda like the wheels, need to go low though to pull them off. This is coming from someone that ran 17" soft 8s on my ls1 s10 though..
the car will look more aggressive with those rims so I'm diggin it.
I almost liked the original wheels, but I think they were too classy and this rig is gonna be more agreesive than classy

The choice to change wheels came after I visited a friend in wisconsin and went to a 1500+ car, carshow and saw a variety of builds all with sort of muted styles that didn't really grab my attention. I'm always a fan of black steelies on almost anything and the look they give. I could see in my mind a little Lark with big wide matte black wheels rolling through town or blasting down the freeway and knew they would fit the style I'm going for.
They are definitely a downgrade as far as class but I want people to hear and see this thing coming down the road and saying, "...wtf is that?, that's badass!" The car will definitely have to be low with these for them to look right as was mentioned in one of the replies.

I passed a car yesterday that was almost identical to this. It was bone stock, slammed on the ground with the factory wheel/tire combo. I think the new wheels will look super awesome!
