I am looking for pics of 1st gen's with a roll bar or cage with the top off. My wife is very anti extra tubing because she likes the looks of the car with the top off, and she feels tubing would ruin it. Can anybody help us visualize what it would look like in a 1st gen. Thanks!

BTW-I have seen Larry's and Lucas', but my wife has a hard time isolating certain parts of the truck to focus on; i.e., she sees the majorly trimeed fenders and won't get over them to actually look at the rest of the pic. So the less radical the better (I gotta ease her into all this).

That is one sweet cage on your rig, but the wife is not into it, as you may have guessed, because of all the tubing. Definitely a cool rig though. What part of western colorado are you from?

On the orange one, I think the orange paint on the roll bar make it more noticeable than a medium to dark grey or even black roll bar would.

Actually, she didn't mind lucas' cage all too bad...

Thanks for the pics. Anybody else have more?

OK mine is a little radical and definately has a couple extra bars.
But maybe it will give her an idea anyway.

Hijack........

You really need to stop posting pics of your junk, it gets me depressed. Then I spend money. So when I go broke im giving my wife you email address!:haha:

that is one sweet looking rig!!!!!

I am near Delta Colorado south of Grand Junction

Got Labs: I'm broke so why shouldn't everybody else be. The more people I can suck into the addiction the less crazy I seem. Hmmmm lets spend way too much money on a rig and then go tear it up only to spend more and do it again. Uh OK I'm in.

All Time Favorite

Your truck is still my fav. or at least until I get mine done.
Dude you have rocks in your back yard, do you climb them!! Later J.

Not the best pic from the distance but the
2nd pic gives you a better idea of the structure.

Here are a few pics of how my cage has evolved, starting with what I think was a stock roll bar. I think its pleasing to the eye and I would trust it 99/100 roll over situations but I would also like to change a few things. It needs more gussets, a diagonal crosser for seatbelts and triangulation. And also the front hoop and rear braces are made out of tubing bent with a pipe bender :o (before I got my tubing bender). The plusses are it mounts in 8 points, 6 of which tie into my rock sliders which tie into the frame, and I have runners along the floor that the seats are mounted to. A work in progress, but maybe some ideas for you.

Jaros44: Hmm never thought about crawling the rockwall between my neighbors yard and me. That could be a blast and good testing area. Thanks.!!:D

You must want to really piss off the neighbors:bow: ! Count me in! We've got some good test walls down here too. Although I must admit I got some strange looks out of the hospital admin. when I mentioned what a nice play area they were building me.:D

I like the looks of the earlier hood setup!!! How much did you have to change to make that work? Fenders, Core Support, etc???

:usaflag:

Thanx Greg, I used '68 fenders, grill, hood and cowl. I didn't use the '68 rad support because it was beyond repair. I ended up cutting the headlight pots out of the '68 support and welding them in a good '72 rad support I had. That worked fine. What I realized when I started bolting things together was that the '72 support is about 1/2" wider than the '68. That is why my hood/fender gaps taper from the front to back.:o I also had to oblong some of the holes in the rad support to get the fender bolts in. I would strongly suggest using all 1968 front clip parts, then it would be a bolt on affair. All in all, I like the look of my "68 Blazer" and as a bonus it brings out the early Chevy guys in the crowd who know GM didn't make one.:wink1:

From the looks of all the pictures, it seems that the brighter colored trucks are able to maintain the full convertable look because your eyes see the lines of the bright body and kinda gloss over the dark cage (which is what i expected). With the darker colored bodies, the body isn't as distinguishable from the cage. Being that my truck is orange, I might just be able to make this all work...
