Pigeon-Rat - Opel gambler build

1966 Opel rekord mounted to 1990 Nissan pathfinder.
Damn, that would be disappointing not to get the 2 for 1.
@72gmck5 thoughts?

Well the VQ40DE in a second gen is more powerful than the supercharged VG33ER (?). But I don't know what it would take to get a VQ in where a VG came out. You'd probably need standalone EFI and then some means of controlling the transmission if you have an automatic.

I think there's a 3.5L engine (not sure if model but maybe the 350Z engine) that's more powerful and an easier swap than the VQ40DE. I briefly looked at doing a SAS First Gen Frontier but decided to stick with the X.

I came to the conclusion that I didn't want to mess with the cost and difficulty of swapping in a VQ. There are lots of options that would return more power (LS swap anyone?) but the simplicity of VG for VG, plus the cool factor of having a supercharger (possibly sticking out of the hood even :cool: ) lead me down this path.

Obviously I haven't bought anything yet, and I really know NOTHING about nissan issues, so plans could change. Part of the reason I posted up the plan was to get input from guys such as yourself that may have more insight.

I don't know how I missed this thread for so long but I'm glad I found it and spent the time to read it through start to finish. Congrats on turning a cocktail napkin scheme into a wheeling reality, I love the concept and the way you brought it all together with some home grown ingenuity and some help from friends, magnificent indeed!

Cool stuff Josh
Wish we could have put together a wheeling trip while I was there!

Doing some work on the pigeonrat to get it cleaned up before the expo.

Finally got the cowl piece done, front fenders patched in, wheels cleaned up, chrome polished, undercarriage painted, interior panels installed in back and working on a bull bar up front. Tomorrow I should be installing a cargo basket.

Got a ton of help from @kgblazerfive @72gmck5 @the_blaze Micheal. Can't wait to see how the expo turns out.

Just realized I never updated this thread after getting into the expo.

Ended up having a ton of fun talking to everyone about the build. It was really well recieved.
Also had a little fun with the other winner.

Luckily he had a good sense of humor about it.

Other than that, I've just been driving it. Since the Coronavirus lockdown, pigeonrat has got more miles on it than all my other vehicles combined. We went on a little road trip last weekend and it's still doing great. It's a blast to drive.

I'm currently busy with yard projects and the blazer, so not much is going to happen with this until probably this winter. (Other than driving it.)
