Pigeon-Rat - Opel gambler build

1966 Opel rekord mounted to 1990 Nissan pathfinder.
I got the radius arms welded up and installed today:

At some point I'm going to box that in, but it's plenty strong enough for now. When I get to doing the suspension, that area might make a good place to mount shocks, etc.

Now that the beams are fully installed I decided to double check clearances.

Sitting on my temporary bump stops everything clears by 1/4" or so! It's hard to tell, but what you're looking at here is the pumkin fully stuffed. The light grey painted piece is the crossmember.

Since my axle u-joint modifications the other day, I've been wanting to test just how much travel that got me. Now that the beams are fully installed, I can check. I measured at the inner C at full stuff, then lowered the beam as much as possible:

Given that my u-joint bottoms out at 37.4*, my math tells me that each axle can drop 18* from flat (18* for each axle for a total difference of 36*).

At this point, I am 19" from full bump. :eek1: That's pretty damn good news considering I was aiming for 14" of travel at the tires.

It's still possible something else will interfere, or the driveshaft won't be able to handle that much droop, etc, but for now I'm ecstatic!

I'll finish putting the axles back together tomorrow, then put the steering together and hopefully set it down on it's tires for the first time in months!
Beam guys call it dirty hooker travel for a reason.
