PLOW MACHINE / sleeping quietly : 237 6 shifter levers !

repair sections were k30 frame . super clean and no rust . wish I could have just got the whole frame . but it was from the mid west so shipping would have killed it . so I got the parts I needed cheep .

I got the rest of the hanger bolt holes drilled and bolted together today .

I didn't get much done as I was just tired out and a buddy scored a ladder rack for his truck for 20 bucks of c-list . I helped him get it and free up all the bolts and install it on his truck .

BIG SCORE TODAY :haha:

$140 bucks of c-list I got a knaack toolbox . the makers of JOB BOX for job site tool storage needs. looks like there truck box line is weather guard box's .

this thing is a tank in size . almost 2x the width of a reg box you get any other place.

I got it to house my 20 gal saddle tank from down low to up top now. also will still have lots of room for tow straps and stuff with this size box.

will be getting 3 bulk head 3/8" pipe fittings to let me run fuel in/out and vapor line also .

got this idea from a buddys show truck with old moving trunk in bed and 12 gal fuel cell in it .

got the rest of the repair frame parts welded in and bolted in . got them burned in best possible with the 300,000 + rusty miles this frame has on it . cleaned them areas down with 40 grit flapper wheel . got them in good-n-hot with big old 220 Lincoln :weld:

also made a simple crossmember section out of 4" C-channel for the old one was shot and the replacement parts had the middle cut out. had to section / pie cut the 1 face on each end to tapper in to hit the old factory stuff as the 4" C-channel is a tad wide for perfect fitment.

I also got the rear brakes bleed out before I fully secured the rear axle in . since its a C&C 14ff narrow there is no real room to bleed them on the truck with the springs in the way .

next to do is drop the flat bed on and drop it 2-3 " down on and then line up the hitch and bumper unit .

got my 2 new Monroe gas magnum shocks today for the rear end . these will go nice with the 2 light used take off's I got from a 99-up super duty to swap in the front .

next was clean up / modify / set / weld the flat bed back up from short cut mods.

needs new skin / deck . boss thinks he has a few full or 1/2 sheets over at his dads shop . going to check and see .

cut up in prep for install my 2 new cross members for the trailer hitch back end and the shock mount up in the frame .

been working on it here and there still.

got the rear hitch re welded to the frame in its new position . its a custom hitch made years ago . and it was welded before so I figured why not again .

just not sure if its going to fall off the truck or not . you tell me :dunno:

going to pop on the tail pipe and then tweek the fuel lines to fit were I need them . next will be set the bed on it and make the new mounting tabs and weld them to the bed and bolt to the frame .

and you can see I did the dodge style rear shocks . only way to with the frame setup I had to clear the shock bodys .

Lincoln 215 power mig

the most I have ever turned it up was E out of A-G range. most of the time I use C-D range .

got the fuel lines on and new filter today .

set the flat bed back on for placement of mounts to weld to it and bolt to frame.

also set the big tool box up there . 3ft of useable flat bed out of 5ft 6" of total flat bed. its weird looking but cute . :D

well slowly I been gaining ground closer to being done.

then today I pulled the sender unit to check the gas tank before I installed it in the toolbox . sure as sh!t rust trail up the inside from the bottom . pin hole ready to pop and leak .

oh well. I go and grab the extra tank I had on hand . but S.O.A.B if I didn't have a bigger same exact problem . so now I have 5 gas tanks with rusted out bottoms waiting to go to the scrapper . 2 you see and 3 under the bed holding it off the ground.

so I ordered a new one for the am at the local store.

but I have made a few improvments to the flatbed for the toolbox mounting . I made 2 side rails for the box to sit on just as if it was in a reg truck box . then it will be bolted down to these to secure it .

I made the arm's pass threw and weld to the head rack beam uprights . welded to the 1/8" plate face also . then the section on the flatbed deck is bolted down so when I re sheet the bed next year I don't need to cut it off just to re skin the deck .

these 2 support rails also are set 2" off the bed so if I need be I can slide a item up to 5ft6" wide all the way up to the front under the box .

you can see the cut out hole for the fuel lines to pass down to the hard lines on the frame . will post pic later of the toolbox pass threw hole I did .

got the new tbi spec tank this am from parts store .

then fabbed up some simple brackets to bolt to the tool box floor with huge fender washers on the bottom to dist load better.

then some strap material with ends folded over for 2x strength . and a full thread bolt welded on and jamb nut / washer on inside to tighten against outside nut when tight . used some wood strips to isolate it from the bottom and a rib in the bottom so it sits flat .

whipped a quick bracket to hold secure the filler neck .

should be a test fire Thursday . :weld:

fired up the old girl today . no leaks and primed the system first with few key cycles and no leaks before I even fired it .

turned it around in the shop with the go-jacks and pointed it out the door since I blew a rusted out p/s hydroboost line before I started this all.

drove it out and found low brake pedal so its time for a reblead in the rear .

degreased the engine bay a bit and letting dry off for Friday start of the p/s hose replacement. glad I have a few hydro boost units with hoses on hand for parts .

and it SUCKS with no p/s help and 35" tires on blacktop trying to turn around and drive back in were I come out from .

got my p/s and brakes back the other day . replaced all 4 lines 3 hoses and 1 hard to flex return from box to pump.

next was just few pics of it as it sits now about done.

last pic of the girls cleaned up a bit .

well today I got the rear brakes reblead out and all is good on the brake pedal .

fired her up and checked the basics and she looked good to go .

took a short trip up the road and had it up to speed and felt good .

real weird feeling tho from old stiff and worn out springs to the new 3" hd tuff countrys in the front and new 56" 8 leaf 2600 lbs per spring packs . and there in backwards for 4" longer rear wheel base .

the Monroe shocks from a 99-up 250-350 front did bolt right in place up front just fine . and the rear is just stock 1ton rear replacments to match the front Monroe shocks.

overall it seems to be a good setup . just need to drive it a bit more. and also need to drive it with the plow on so I know now if I need a lot of ballast or not. :dunno:
