Potent Rodent

New built engine, EFI, 4L80 transmission, t-case, brakes, hydroboost, tires/wheels and more!
Got the F150 shifter console, came in a huge box on top of a pallet of all things. Did some measurements and I think its going to fit nicely in the K5. Its a little wider than the Tuffy but will still fit between the seats. This console looks brand new and came with the shifter that I should be able to re-sell for $100 or more. The seller has 4 left and has sold 58 so I'm curious if they came out brand new police or fire trucks but not re-using the factory shifter doesnt make any sense. Also comes with 2 USB ports I can use for charging or hooking up to a stereo and 3 12v plugs plus a 110v outlet that I will need to wire up in the back. Both shifters should fit great. Looks like I might need those flush mount Sidewinder shifter mounts like tRustyK5 has. $72! I'll take some pics.

I'll get some detailed ones of the shifters being installed and some measurements for all to see. There's a good place for a thick metal plate under the shifter trim. This thing is huge! Need to make a top plate to cover the sliding cubby hole door and get the lower side panels. Here's some pics of another one without the shifter.

If I had run across that when I was doing mine I would have used it for sure!! Looks like it checks all the boxes and looks good doing it!

Here's what it looks like with the stock F150 shifter and trim off. The shifter is so damn nice that I had to measure the cable throw but it was short compared to the Winters 4L80 throw so won't work with our transmissions.

Shifter removed. The area that was under the cup holders will easily support a flat plate.empty.jpg

Shifters are backwards and not mounted but gives you an idea of the room for the shifters.

13" wide. The stock 87 K5 seats have about 16-17" between them.

Length is 38" but 5" of that hangs back from the floor mount so its closer to 33" from the back of the seat.

Thought I should test the cable shifter and NP205 together before I install this. Looks like front drive will not go into into low range and I'm not sure why. Definitely a problem with the t-case. Any ideas?

Id confirm the t case will fully engage low with out the cable/shifter assembly. If the issue is only the case (re: shift rail) it’s probably the same as the issue @skunked had with his

If it will shift sans shifter, then it’s a shifter adjustment issue

I did try without the shifter and moving the shift rails manually and used lots of leverage. No luck. I'll start taking this thing apart and verify. I may just order some machined shift rails from JB Fab to be sure they are done correctly.

So aside from what @obijuank5 aid about the shift fork being pinned:

Make sure fork is not in backwards

Then back to the rails/detent. They are probably not quite enough to seat the fork all the way in low.

if you end up buying some of Jon's rails I would also get the adjustable detents so you can get the feel just right.

Appreciate the suggestions!

Think I figured out the problem.

Notice where the synchro ring is on the wrong side of the larger gear? Causing everything to be out of wack.

how come you didnt use my pics in the link as reference ?:frown:notworthy:
Was looking for entire front assembly showing all 4 synchros and gears but didn't see one. Stole it off the video.

What tool did you use to get the thick small lock ring off? Managed to bend mine. Was hoping harbor freight has something

I have the ones in the third link. That would be my choice again as well

Thanks! I may get lucky with harbor freight but not holding my breath.

I think a blind guy put this together. What was the previous builder thinking? That's what happens when you buy used parts off Craigslist unfortunately....
