Project 82 TCBF -10.13.9 - progress!!!

That's a nice looking cab! That question you asked about the brakes. They have nothing to do with the dump bed. Thats a hydroboost master cylinder they came on 1-ton trucks. You might want to think about swapping that into your blazer. I daily drive a 77 c-30 dually its got hydroboost and I love it. excellent stopping power!

hmmmm:D

Thanks all for the comments. If your interested in parts, as Tom and Glenn are, PM me and i`ll see what I can do. Just keep the selling out of here, don`t want no mods coming around:D

You guys would die if you knew what I paid for it:D

If you put a TBI on a older block everything will work but you will have one bolt that won't work on the the serpintine system if you use it. Newer heads have three bolt holes older have only two, no need to drill it anything works as it is. The intake bolts down different too so depending on which intake you use, depends on the work you have too do. The newer ones bolt straight down on the center four the older at an angle, the older heads can be tapped to make work.

Not sure if I`m going to use the serpentine system or no. As for the intake, yep, found that out from chiefheaphy. I`ll have to ask him again, but I believe he just had the holes machined out to work. I`m debating on wether I should use the stock TBI, or an aftermarket EFI, which would allow the cab/motor swap to be ALOT easier. Worth it? Figure I could keep the 82 harness etc in there, and swap it all over.

Super cheap or super expensive?
Well, not sure on super cheap, but compared to the other deals around, and what went into this, and what came with it, yeah, I guess it could be considered super cheap:D

If there isn't anything wrong with the engine in your Blazer, I'd leave it alone and just swap the cab.

The painless harness would make things easier, perhaps, but isn't necessary.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Keep the serpentine and TBI. Keep the hydroboost, even if you don't install it til later.

If you really want the cab to last, grab some POR-15 and coat the bottom. Bedliner would work too, but there's still the potential for rust to form eventually. POR-15, applied correctly, will NEVER rust.

I'd do a 1" BL and some poly mounts when you do the cab swap.

That was one of the pluses (sp?) to this truck, the motor. It will replace my tired oil burner, that is in dire need of a rebuild. The rings in that motor are beyond gone:eek1:

Not sure on the serpentine, but I definitely want some kind of FI.

The hydroboost will definitely be swapped in as well. More stopping power can never hurt.:wink1:

As far as the cab lasting, yeah, when it comes time, I`ll seam seal all the welds, and rust bullet the whole underneath.

And yeah, a 1" body lift would definitely be a wise mod to do with no body on the frame. All ready got poly mounts, so just need to pick up the lift blocks.

If you wanna run that 3" BL of mine through the chop saw...

hmmmm....possibly...I`ll let ya know. Hey, I figured out another thing you could help me with:D When I finally strip the blazer body, that plasma would come in mighty handy:D :wink1:

MMMMM Looks like it's gonna be a fun build soon...

So when you starting? I have every other weeken off of work...

Tom

Well. If I just swap it all over like it is, and wait until next spring to deal with the TBI, then I could probably do it before winter. But, i`d really rather wait until spring. That way, I have from now until then to plan the swap thoroughly, have everything ready to go, so it goes as smooth as possible. That means wire harness if I decide to use TBI. Rebuild 208 with new speedo gears so I don`t have to bother with the electrical one. Have my new tranny set to go. Body mounts/lift set to go. Rear cab crossmember set to go. Tranny hump modded for tcase, etc..... It would make my life easier, and the swap a hella lot easier, and allow to do a better job, since we wouldn`t have to rush to get it done before it gets too cold.

Had a chance to charge the battery and start her up. Sounds good with the muffler cut off. Sounds like a loud harley:D , and didn`t see a puff of smoke:D

Also apparently someone hooked up a tranny cooler, and had a remote filter or something hooked up at one point, and when they took it out, they never re-connected the 2 lines, and well, yeah, it made a mess:eek1: :D :D

Dude wait untill you are fully prepared and have the time to do all neccessary work so you do it right and only have to do it once.
