Project 82 TCBF -10.13.9 - progress!!!

Started my big fiberglass over wood project. Now, I was planning on doing the bed side panels, as well as the rear wall, but because of the conditiong of the rear wall (I had already had the wall from a while back), I decided to ditch it, and get this all done, and work on the rear wall/window for the little top later.

Step 1 was to cut the panels to the right size, then sand them down with 40 grit.

Step 2 was to cut the fiber glass cloth to the right size.
(panel over fiberglass cloth, ready to be cut to size)

I repeated this 4 times, in order to have one for each side of both panels.

Now, onto step three! First I brushed the thinned resin on the panel. After that, I layed the cloth down and got it to where it was supposed to be, which was a big pain, as the resin on the board was like glue:eek1: After getting it in its place, I started brushing it with the resin, from the middle out, getting out the air bubbles with a squeegie. Then, let sit!

I got the insides of both side panels done, which I will keep the way they are, and just paint them. The outsides will have the fill coat on them though.

I also got some rope in. Thanks to Cajun4x4 for the idea!

20' of 1.5" 3 strand Nylon! BEEF!

Along with that, 1 gallon of smooth back bedliner for the bed.

Well, I needed something to use for when i`m running the windy woodsy trails, and the 40ft military strap would be two long. If the military strap ever breaks, I`ll be making an order for a 40-50ft rope soon after:D

Nope. Right now I`m waiting to get some Cabosil to make it easier to do the fill coat. We`re inline for some crappy weather, so I don`t want to start, then have to shut my basement door when it starts raining (or the basement will start flooding)

Most likely Wednesday, I`ll have the Cabosil, and it won`t be raining, so I`ll get it done.

For now, I`m working on small projects that are easy to stop when it starts raining. Probably finish installing the cooler and the filter kit for my tranny today, then figure out how I`m going to plumb it, then get the rubber hose.

Alright. Been a while since I updated this. So far, I`ve got the both panels covered in glass, just need to do the edges/sand/paint. I also got my cooler and filter where they will be, although they arent completely hooked up yet, waiting for flare tool.

Other than that, the build hasn`t gone many places. Need to work on rear window/wall before it starts getting too cold.

I`m working on getting some brackets made with Kert two put some shackles on, too. Still waiting on my first paycheck from my new job.:D

Just a word of warning my friend....

There is a HUGE advantage to mounting a remote filter vertical... spin one off, spin a full one on.. simple as a bango-playing bubkis.. mount it sideways, and it's a messy pain in the arse...

Yeah, I figured that, but I can`t find anywhere else to put it:o I had it where the air box goes on the rad support, but decided it would be better to leave it all hooked up. Any suggestions?

Move the hose and turn it to point down, will help it alot
Hmm, hopefully there`s enough room. Is this what you meant Paul?

alright guys, here`s the deal. my blazer has got some rot on the roof/drip edge that is pretty bad, and tough to repair. so that was my deciding point to swap to a P/U cab.

Now, here`s my question. I`m getting a COMPLETE RUST FREE 82 P/U with no bed. It was literally just redone at the bodyshop 6 months ago. Spent 2k at body shop, 900 in sheet metal, and lost interest. Not sure which tranny, but both mot/tran have less than 55k on them. I have a built 700r4 ready to go, so the tranny doesnt matter to me.

So, should I swap the cab on my frame?

if i do the cab swap, should I do custom flatbed, or shorten my blazer bed?

build the 82 (put my tranny/lift/axles on it)?

flatbed or regular short/stepside bed?

TIA guys, kind of a big decision, just trying to get some other peoples opinions

i have a mint shortbed that i might be willing to sell... but you allready have the tailgate

Tom

p.s. i would swap the stuff to the 82 pickup, it's a short bed right?
