Project Caddy - 03 Escalade Build

So all this extra money on the batteries and hybrid stuff on this vehicle, what kind of fuel economy does this add and how long will it take to recoup all this added cost vs just driving a regular gasser? I know my wife's gasser '08 GMC yukon xl denali awd gets a best of 17 mpg highway but probably more like 13 running around normally, maybe in the middle somewhere.

Stock they run a real world 22 mpg. I doubt that the fuel savings vs the cost of replacement batteries and the up front added cost would ever result in a cost savings.

That said, these things are cheap to buy now because nobody wants to deal with the batteries or knows how to work on them. Even with a 5k set of batteries this truck is still half the cost of a similar mileage conventional Tahoe.

I am a sucker for cheap broken trucks.

After you get it all figured out we will all go looking for them! :D

Got the new lithium batteries installed a couple of weeks ago. No more CEL and it cleared up most of the drivability issues with the Tahoe. Still need to swap the transmission out, that slip on the 2-3 shift is still as bad as ever. I've got the truck sitting on the driveway with a 120Vac oil bath heater running in the back to keep the lithium batteries warm during our -30 cold snap this past week and a maintainer on the 12V battery. I have no idea when I'm going to have space or time to work get the transmission swapped out. My shop foundation is poured, and they started on the framing today, so hopefully I'll have a heated place to work inside by the sometime in January and can start working on it then.

Speaking of hybrids, my wife's and I have decided to trade her GMC Acadia in on a minivan. We've got a 3rd in the oven and the Acadia is getting close to timing chain failure mileage so it's time to send it on to the next owner. We both liked the Toyota Sienna best and they only come in hybrid these days. I want an AWD, she wants the limited package. There are 7 for sale across the country that fit the bill with the closest being 3 provinces over, a solid 13hr drive each way. Figures. Guess I get to start doing daily searches for minivans and hope one crops up locally before we have to stuff 3 car seats into the Acadia. Lots more fun doing that kind of a search for a Chevelle or something instead of a minivan!

Also - For those who have me on FB please don't spill the beans on #3 yet. We're not quite ready to let the general population know about it yet :)

Congratulations on the 3rd tricycle motor! Have you figured out what causes that yet?
