Project Camo Reaper - Brake lines made - post #144

:haha::haha::haha:I have 35 spline stubs, locking hubs, high steer(you will need a 2wd steering box) I should have a pitman arm, Ujoints to get rid of the ****ty steering shaft, 14bolt detroit(it is 4.56 I think it will work with 4.10)

If you go with H1 beadlocks I have Dually hubs and Rear bolt on spacers, and a brand new 37 on a H1 wheel with mag runflat.

PLEASE keep it simple, go TBI I have most of the parts.

So am I moving there, or are you moving back???
Starting everytime you hit the key, good brakes, good steering, heat/defrost are more important than any other mods. I have 6-10 30 spline stubs, with an open front you will NEVER break a 30spline, but I understand.

Because of you I am keeping my K5, so bumpers are real easy. I just need to know what winch, left or right for the tire, cb mount Y/N, stock or cut 1/4's.

I can ship or drive out around my birthday. It would be one hell of a work weekend. It would be like the old days.

I've always wanted to do an ultimate hunting/adventure rig kind of build.

I think I'd defintely get into some of the more camping type stuff. On board shower, maybe a sleeping arrangement of sorts. One of those tents that attaches to the rear of the rig.... Just thinkin' out loud. Sorry, back to the build.

I could use a shower about now. Dressed for warmth and hiking several miles in and out of the woods works up a sweat

You have to move here, westy won't ever move. Guess I should plan a bigger shop

k, haven't drove the Jimmy in a week or so mainly cause it was have some issue losing power almost like the fuel filter or pump was to blame. New electric pump was added just before I got it, rerouted the fuel line away from the motor (possible vapor lock symptoms) and a new filter. It was great for about 110 miles then it started losing power again on my way home.

I pulled plugs and swapped in some new AC's this weekend. There were 3 that looked corroded or rusted at the electrode and the ceramic. Timing was WAYYY off. Timing light showed it was far away from the timing tab. Could have been +20*. Distributor was a little loose so I guess it could have moved.

Tracked down my power seat problem to the wire not being connected to a power source anymore. Must keep feet away from fuse box

Found an old Sun II Super Tach in the garage so I hook it up.
No movement on adding the 1 ton axles yet. Going to wait until I can spring for the wheels/tires, maybe the crossover too

Ok, I'm thoroughly convinced the POS quadrajet is the problem. It runs great for about 15 miles then falls on it's face. Had to pull off the road this morning coming to work so I could let cars pass me. It was running fine doing 55-60 then I had a small hill and I felt it start surging. Had to let off the gas and try to clear it. Carb it loading up. Did I mention I hate quadrajets? I can't wait to get the TBI on here.

Will be curious to see how long my normal 30 minute drive home will take. I'll start the guessing at 45 minutes and 3 flipoffs from people behnd me ...

I am wrestling a similar problem. Just picked it up and going through it. Started driving to work yesterday and had to turn around. It died, had tools and started working through the issues. Think it was vapor locking since the fuel line comes up the back of the block. No fan shroud so everything I touched was f'n hot! Finally got towed home. Moved the fuel lines today, and am off to buy a shroud for it... hope it helps.

Mine is an 88 but some jack pipe took of the TBI and there sits a Holley. Can you believe that it passes Ca smog?! So I am in search of the original TBI set up

I feel your pain!! Its fun to a point, but I am getting close to that "point".

Not to jack your thread, but I subscribed to it cause I am doing the exact same thing you are...DD plus hunting and playing.

I had the same problem with my Blazer. Fought it for nearly 3 years.

I managed to track the problem down to the fact that my fuel was boiling in the line. (I rerouted the fuel line in the engine compartment, and placed a clear filter in it)

the eventual solution was to move the electric fuel pump I installed down onto the frame rail, as low and as close to the tank as possible.
I also had to fabricate a heat-shield for the exhaust, since I was still having the occasional issue with boiling fuel when crawling slowly.

put about 5,000 miles on it since then about half of which was slow offroading, and the other half of which consisted mainly of city driving in the heat of summer, and large mountains. Problem has not come back.

All the crap I replaced and rebuilt means that my truck now runs better then new.

So it took about 1 hour to get home. Could never get aboe 35 and had to pull over multiple times so cars could pass. Finally pulled over and checked the fuel filter. It was half full of what looked like mud. Gas tank will be coming off this weekend

Holly Crap man.
That carb worked flawless on my crew cab. Unless its full of Crap again.
I swore that Damn problem was nailed. I wonder if the tank is rusting out and been a problem bastard for a while.
Need any help with the tank? I'll lend a hand.

Ok, so maybe not the carb. For sure there is an issue with either the tank or whatever form of liquid/sludge that is in there. Saved the filter and will give it a better look later but it was mud like. I'm still showing about 1/2 tank of fuel. Hoping to strain it when I siphon a lot of it out before I drop it.

If it is rusting, what's your suggestion? New tank, coat it, other?

Have a 79 suburban I was considering the tank coat a few years ago. After homework and talking to a few people the new tank was the way to go. Didn't save any money but the lack of headaches and my time was worth the expense. Take one out, put on in. No cleaning or wait time, no driveway or garage mess and fumes. Just better all around. Get new straps to, that also was worth it in my opinion.

Just went out to inspect the filter. It had maybe 150 miles on it and is 1/2 full (solid) with rust. We have found the culprit!
Hey Brad, it's either this tank rusting or the tank in your race truck

Haha, I just saw your Sig.

My race truck has a newer fuel cell. So that's not it.
I'd say get the tank down and see what's up. If rusted I would buy new. I had to put two new tanks on my K30 and its a 86.

We can use the lift this weekend if you want.

my '78 has the factory tanks...

For as much rust as there was in the filter, I would say the tank is shot. I ordered everything last night before bed. It will probably ship by carrier turtle

So while I wait on the tank (backordered :angry1: ), let get back to Kert's idea of camping stuff.
Planning for a roof rack for sure.

I have a 3k winch that I made to slide into receiver hitch. Good for
retreiving game or hoisting them up for cleaning.

Sleeping quarters inside would be better than a tent. I have a sleeping bag good to -30f..not that I ever want to hunt when it's that cold.

Onboard shower? Hmmm
I would have a holder for 1 or 2 Jerry cans built into the rear bumper.

What else?

Soon. I have a 3 day weekend and Saturday and Sunday has us back in the mid 40's. Hopefully the tank is here by then.
I just thought of something. On a few of the old plugs I pulled out it looked like rust on the center electrode and all around it. Wonder if that was from the rust in the tank? I'll pull a few of the new plugs and check this weekend
