Project Chump (88 K5) - ORD front 4 link install

Slowly making progress. At the start of this year, I was approached by a friend who had just started an off-road parts business that caters to Toyotas. He asked me if I would be interested in helping with any local customers who wanted installs. It seemed like a fun side business to get involved with, but it's gotten so busy (a good thing) that's it's taken some time from my personnel projects.

Anyway, back to the K5. Over the past few months I have been doing some metal work to make room for the 38" Toyos at full stuff, re-ran fuel lines to be all stainless, new heater, new dash pad, gauge cluster, wheels, tires. I'll try and get some more pics a bit later.

Here's what I finished tonight. I decided to run and iPad as my center gauge cluster. I'll pair it to my ECM via Bluetooth and ODBII. I also included some mechanical gauges to keep any eye on things when the iPad is using Waze, or something else.

Thanks!! I'm hoping to have some updates of it running soon.

To expand on what I said a few weeks ago... Late last year, I had a good friend who had recently gone through a life-threatening medical condition approach me about using my shop (personal) to help him start a business. He had always wanted to have a small 4x4 parts business, and after almost loosing his life, he didn't want to put it off anymore. His biggest issue was lack of tools and experience with doing suspension installs. I told him that I would be happy to help, make a few extra $$, get parts at cost, etc, etc, as long as it didn't interfere with my day job. I won't bore you with the details, but it has been a crazy ride with the business doing WAY more than we thought it would. He focuses mostly on Toyota and Jeeps as they're not afraid to throw some $$ at a truck with 100 miles on it.

The only downside is that I haven't gotten much time to work on my own junk. I'm hoping the second half of this summer through the fall will give me more time for myself.

The Jeep/Toyota world is crazy right now. I work at a big 4x4 shop in Jersey and right now thats probably one full half of our business.

I sell all the 4x4 stuff at my shop. We are so busy with superduty axle swaps in jeeps and obs powerstrokes. We have 4 early Broncos and a k20 to k30 conversion frame off. If you build it they will come. But don't necessarily count on this stuff. It is seasonal af. That's where our diesel repair side comes in. Powerstrokes will always need something lol.

It has definitely pushed my projects back to finish these. Good luck getting some time on your own stuff cause it looks pretty bitchin.

Yeah, we sort of specialize in Tundras as thats the truck he owns and the direction he wanted to take. We're both partners in technology companies within the "DC crowd", so that keeps us busy and pays the real bills. The shop is mostly used in evenings and weekends. I still find it crazy how much $$ people will throw at a truck that they literally just bought. Some of these kits cut crossmember and frames, which I cringe while doing on a new vehicle. Its a lot of fun right now... see what happens in the future?? I'm glad I don't rely on it to put a roof over my head, that would bring another huge level of stress.

@Deuling - yeah, Detroit Speed wheels. I ordered these long before I heard they got a show. To be honest, it made me nervous when I heard about it. When it comes to style, I TRY and do something different. Ohh well.... BTW - I'll be hitting you up soon about some stickers.

I dont know how i missed this... awesome builds! Hope you have been enjoying the k5!
