Project MULE - Expedition build on a 1991 1500 4x4 Suburban

Another idea I am going with.

Ladder system but on the passenger side

I'll try to remember to take a picture of the radius my front bumper tactical armor made for me tomorrow and up load it.

I dont think your going to do much better than that. Any plans to incorperate a tire carrier?

Right now the idea is ladder and tools on pass. side barn doors and spare tire on Drivers barn door. Nothing on the bumper at this time. I have done a split style swing out setup before U just would rather have them on the doors.... maybe.

If I was to do it it would be similar to the pics below.

This is what I built before on my Cherokee

This is all done on a plasma table or Waterjet. There is no front face radius' Thats why the 45* angle at the ends. The face would require a bending.

I think we are on the same page. No radius bends, just cuts to contour with the body.

Would the spare on the drivers side interfere with the opening of the passenger barn door? I think the tire might be wide enough to cover the drivers and partially the passenger door. Maybe if the spare was on the passenger side it would take one less step to easily access the inside.

Its possible. I will have to do some measuring. Generally you put the spare on the drivers side since the drive cant see that way anyways, but i can see what you mean.

well it actually looked fine until i removed that plastic trim on the corners. now its all fuggly. Am going to raise the upper half a 1.25" and give the end caps a sharper taper.

Ok, I see what you are talking about. I dont plan to "hook" that much material around the sides as it will be a catcher of branches and rocks. But the 3 angle radius is close to what I am doing.

I am re-working the ends now.

Updates

the end caps are more angled and i swept the bottom outter sections of the main bumper out more.

Added 1" height to close the gap with the body and went 1" deeper on the top to also close the gap.

Thanks, I think i got lucky on this one. The front bumper went thru I think 4 pr 5 renditions but this one is only the 2nd but I think I am going to keep with it.

The first one never survives the cut. and after looking at the frist few pics. UCK! PUKE. mine as well have just slapped a old rail road tie on it it was that bad!

Bumpers maybe on hold for a few more weeks. Just found out thru the grapevine of friends there is a matched set of 10b front and 12bolt rear axles out of a 87 all done up with 4.10s and "posi's" for $400 bucks. Been gone thru rebuilt and had a bunch of chrome bolted to them along with "heavy duty tierods". I guess brother died and he has no use for them.

Will know more this weekend.

Would it have been possible to just raise the bumper on the mounts instead of adding 1.25 inches to the top? You are doing great work and it is really not for me to say, but I think strictly from an asthetic (sp?) position, the first rendition fits the back of the truck better.

What if you were to keep the ends of the bumper tight against the body and run it forward flush with the front edge of the tail light lens. That way it would look finished. That way it most likely wouldn't catch on something.

Actually the addition of the 1.25" allows for correct amount of room for the winch.

I am still not entirely convinced on the angle of the end caps but it maybe a few weeks before i send this off for cutting anyways as i may be spending the money on axles right now.

As for bringing it forward to flush of the front of the taillight you need to remember to leave room. I am leaving 1" spacing around for frame twist and body flex.
