Project MULE - Expedition build on a 1991 1500 4x4 Suburban

I like that idea. I might have to do that to my sub. Are you going to tape it off like that on your suburban too, so you dont really see it from the ground?

Thanks for the info. I've just added it to my list of to-do items on my Suburban Project. My Sub is always parked outside and so heat is always an issue. This elastomeric coating combined with the Dynamat I'm putting in should help out significantly.

Thanks for sharing

P.S. got this in the mail today

Aren't all of the UPS trucks done like that?

Almost everything that big has a white roof. All the motor coaches I've ever driven have had white roofs. I'm going to do this to my Yukon as well.

I have a whole 4x8 sheet of 16ga 5051 Aluminum sitting around doing nothing so I have decided to re do some of my door panels. Taking some ideas from this guy on the Expedition portal.

Windows still go up and down. its meant to be a hold it in place and roll window up but this guy and so will I fix it in place but still removable. If you look closely you will see the glass slips into a channel to secure the piece.

I love my wife and here is why.

In trying to find a way to have a stronger transfer case I found a way to also have a 2-lo option. There are many time we need only 2 wheel drive but just need the slow control of the lo gear. So I found a transfer case that will do it along with twin sticking it (for more control).

So i mention to the wife "Hey Hun I figured a way we can have our 2 lo option again by swapping out transfer cases and adding some sticks."

and with that she replies

"just leave the hubs unlocked"...

hahahaha great. But remind her that if you are in 4lo with the hubs out and get into a sticky position and need full 4wd that she'll have to get out and put the hubs in versus having the option of leaving the hubs in and staying in the vehicle to control from 2lo to 4lo

Updates:

I hope to be painting the grille and Moonvisor this weekend.
I pick up the first Auxiliary battery today.
Ordered the onboard 4 camera system for the iPad
Ordered the window vents from Germany.
Ordered Goose neck LED map lights.
Ordered Silent Circulation fans for interior.
Place order for bumpers.

I like the window vents. Divulge info please...lol. I do like the non secure variants that are made for the over the road trucks that are plastic u channel and are about 2/3 rds the size of the window. They slip in place and they have screen door material on them. More air flow. No one makes them for our stuff of course other than a slip cover design i found.

I am wondering what your final plans will be with the rear bumper. Ie: just adding the top part of the cherokee rear bumper you built? I need a rear bumper for the jimmy...but it seems no one will touch the most important part of the equasion...ie: tire carrier swing out...provisions for mounting high lift-shovel-axe-fuel cans-etc.

The vents I came across on the expedition portal forum. The pics you see of that black suburban are a guy in Germany that loves GM trucks. I asked him and he sent me to the German website. It's all in German and took some work witht he Google translator. But if you fill out the contact form they will respond in English.

I won't have these for couple of weeks. They aint cheap, after the conversion and after int'l shipping they were $106.00.

As for the rear bumper I am still bouncing around the idea between swing outs like on my Cherokee or on the doors. Why won't "no one touch it".
