Project MULE - Expedition build on a 1991 1500 4x4 Suburban

Anyone have brand recommendations for R134a Condensor? A brand you have used your self with great success?

Glad you're back! Here is a link to a post I made about the condenser I got (from 2012). The p/n is in post 1. Despite being shorter in width, it cools my entire suburban really well. I am from AZ too, and it worked excellent in the summer (we did business once, not sure if you remember). I also have windstar fans too, which help at low speeds. The longer I drove, the cooler it got. On longer drives, it could get around 40 at the vents when its 110F. 32 or so when its under 100F. Go to Post 68 for a picture. The core mounts weren't perfectly set up, but it was super easy to make it work. Others chimed in throughout the thread on ones they found too.

I saw that one but when reviews said it didn't fit I passed on it. Perfect! Did you have to modify or make mounts?

Aldo do you have a write up on the Windstar fan upgrade?

Most excellent thanks!

PS yeah I think I got 3/4 ton from outers from ya yes?

I had to modify a mount I think. Pretty sure I drilled one hole but maybe not even that. I know there was a provision for moving whatever I moved...It took a couple minutes tops and I'm no fabricator.

For the windstar fans, I originally had a guy weld brackets on my aluminum radiator that fit the windstar shroud mounts. The radiator took a dump so I made brackets out of 1/16 steel scrap and screwed them to the core support. Not enough time has passed to see how it'll hold up, but I might do another version. The shroud only got minor trimming to clear hoses. I have not filled in any of the gaps to seal it perfectly to the radiator but it cools fast for the PNW. Others on the forums did things more fancy but I like easy and effective. More recently, I grabbed the relay box and the low speed resistor from a windstar so I can run it in two speeds. On high it sucks a lot of amps and I have melted a relay or three. Low speed has been perfect although I haven't had to deal with it in AZ yet. The factory relay box has a 70a relay and a 30a relay. I was using two 30a relays.

And yes, I sold you some caliper brackets. I just recently purchased another set since I didn't need the ones that allow 15" wheels anymore...and the custom ones caused uneven wear on my pads and calipers. After hunting some down, I realized I gave you a smokin deal, lol!

I mentioned doing some top end upgrades on my truck and someone mention Dynamic EFI. Please step forward and prepare to be questioned! :-)

Their website is a little plane can you kind of give me the basic rundown on getting the dynamic EFI I mean how exactly do I get the truck started with the dynamic EFI is there a baseline program in it or what how much monkeying around do I have to do

I guess my question is if I order the dynamic EFI ECM, I get that and then I have the original ECM in my other hand what do I do then?

Install the software, plug in the new computer, connect them and upload the correct rom. Start it up! You can make adjustments and upload new settings while its running. When I get home I'll throw up more info.

What ECM do you currently have?

Mine is the factory 7747 with the EBL Flash installed. I use TunerPro for editing, can't beat free. All I did was load the correct bin (all software is included). After that, I killed the error code for the emissions pump removal. And did a basic self tune. Just playing around in the software and bin files will give you ideas.

The EBL site covers the basic tuning, first page http://www.dynamicefi.com/Tune_Intro.php second page http://www.dynamicefi.com/Tune_Intro2.php It really pretty much covers basic tuning and getting you up and running well.

For an advanced discussion of the EBL tuning and further insights try https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-prom/356351-tuning-ebl.html

I love that you can have multiple tunes saved in the computer and hot swap between them. Eight of them if I remember right. Set the first as a base line "good" tune, and then play and adjust the others till you find your happy spot. I've only done the basic self tune, as I'm waiting for time to do some exhaust and intake work. Life is quite busy right now, and I can't have my daily driver down very long.

Okay so with the different heads and cam I'll have in there it will learn a new Fuel and timing Curve to fit that new build or do I have to do it manually?

IIRC I think I have the 7747

You can do both. Start with the "stock" bin closest to your build. Run it in self tune several times. Once it's running decent, run your fuel of choice and start adding timing. Then more self tune to pull out any spark knock and you should be good to go.

The 7747 means for an EASY install. It'll work perfect with the trans you have.

Whats up guys! Well The Mule is back. Sad story is it was parked over two years ago. occasionally used for some oddball job then parked again. It was then on the chopping block for a planned sale on it but after a while we thought we would keep it and continue with the powerplant upgrades.

It was planned to sell it and use it to get 2013+ F150 with the 5.0. for a daily driver after our move back to Minnesota next year. about a month ago we thought why not just keep the burb that way we don't get into another car payment since our whole purpose is to eliminate debt prior to the move.

This last week has been resuscitating the mule back to life and there is still some work to get done. Tires are shot so new tires and wheels are in. the fuel pump was host being clogged as the gas had turned to turpentine. so had to flush fuel system out. New fuel filter, new AC Delco fuel pump and the sending unit didn't look that healthy either so dropped in a new Airtex unit. Changed the oil and transfer case fluid. Going to take it to a friends shop and have him flush the coolant out along with fresh tranny fluid.

We had to leave the hood cracked open to keep the the rats away from nesting and eating the wires. which did help to some extent but they used all the hood insulation as bedding. about a month ago we had a real bad wind storm come thru the valley and it yanked the hood up and backwards. bent the hood and did a number so bad on the spring hinges that they reversed themselves. FOund a good used hood form a local square body guy for $80 and got some new insulation and hinges from LMC. The other issue of leaving the hood cracked was it was enough for the Arizona sun to get in there and do some UV damages so some hoses and things like the coolant and washer fluid chugs need replacing.

The TBI is a bit gummed up so once I get a new Fuel regulator spring in this week I will rebuild that so its all fresh. All in all it took a bit of work over the last week but the Mule is back and staying with us and will be back on the board as we move along in life.

Rear tires aired down to be able to use jack for gas tank drop.

Mental note, never assume how much gas you have left in it. Gauge read 8th but i pumped out 17gallons after dropping it! Ugh...

E10 doing what it does best.

New AC Deloc pump and pickup screen and a new Airtex sending unit.

Hood replacement.

You can see what happen to the old hinges.

Still got some adjusting to do. I also dumped the hood pins, dug out the old hardware and got a new hood latch cable so its back to that more factory look now.

When I bought the tires I got the cheapest 315/75-16s I could get because at the time we were selling the truck. so I am stuck with these until they wear out.

Glad to see it back! bummer it got so neglected in the last few years.

Good plan to keep it. Staying away from payments is a good way to go.

Thread updates - I got notice from a couple of forum members about pics being broken. Give me some time as I get them uploaded to my new FTP server.

Mule project updates and to do list
Rebuild TBI to get her back on the street
Flush cooling system
Flush transmission
Get new tires and wheel mounted
Get alignment
Upgrade Window motors and do LMC relay power upgrade for windows.
switch over to Windstar fans and dump mechanical fan.
repair, replace or redesign rear bumper as swing out spindles are still bent form tree incident of 2014.
Full khaki and black paint job
Full A/C repair
Tune Port Injection torker motor is cancelled and we will be going with a Edelbrock Pro-Flo 4 system with Vortex type heads and a roller cam. (much easier, less hassle. cost a bit less)

Glad to have you back brother!

I finally got a new motor in mine also. Jasper with an RV cam, 3 yr warranty.

Got to wait until next spring to get the paint addressed.

Are you still selling the bumper kits?

Not selling the kits anymore. I have been working on selling the plans on Ebay.
