Project Penny - All good things must come to an end

...whole buncha fail in that post there zim. Error error error!

The filters for all the years have been upgraded for a few years now.
But anyways I think that if you can pull off the electrical as easy as you say it's no wonder you make as much money as you do.

All of the fuel and I think oil filters are the same for all the early years of the D-max perhaps even into the 11' and 12' models . As they have changed the filter media and type all the filters have changed. There is no "LBZ" fuel filter, it's just a filter for a wide range of D-max engines. That said the LB7 platform has a few issues stemming from the bad injectors.

Run bad injectors for too long and you will crack pistons. The injector design is just not great so even new injectors today will have a shorter life span than the new styles. Installing a 2 micron cat filter setup and electric lift pump at the fuel tank helps some but at the end of the day I doubt, IMO only with no proven info to back it up, the LB7 will have a set of injectors last over 100,000 perhaps even as low as 50,000 miles if the engine is worked hard.

My brother is in the process of getting new LB7 in his towrig from bad injectors causing a couple cracked pistons.

Yet another reason for me to hurry up and swap injectors. My balance rates aren't that bad yet. I only have 2 bad injectors, and they aren't way out there, but still need to get this done asap.

Jess does your truck smoke at all...No I don`t mean black.

It hazes at first but clears up. It can only be noticed while cold. But still balance rates are off so that means lost power and lost mileage.

I surprised it hasn`t got worse, that is good I guess but I think you should fix it sooner than latter.

Mine has got 2620000 thousand kms on it and the injectors have never given me any trouble... yet.:D

You said you were going to replace them your self...is that still the case? If it is good luck with it and let us know how it goes.

When mine go I would like to do my own aswell, lots of info on the deisel place and I know some duramax guys that are good to talk to they are both gm master mechanics and one owns MPL in Lacombe AB.:thumb:

The injectors are pretty easy to change based on what I have seen... I am gonna pressure wash this engine and just drop it in as is. I only plan to change the oil and fuel filter before I drive it anywhere. Hopefully with 230k it'll still be reliable for a little while. If I blow it up or have an injector failure, I'll probably just upgrade to an LBZ engine anyways.

I am still undecided if I want to go ZF6 or Allison in the Tahoe. I have decided to leave my DD alone, since parts are hard to find for the ZF transmissions these days...

:thumb: And sorry for the hijack.

Can hardly wait to see the end result of your awesomeness!!:waytogo:

The injector job should only be an 8 hr job. I have only put 1k on my truck this year due to having a company car. So its low priority. I figure end of winter when the buggy is mostly done, I'll swap em. Lincoln diesel has reman injectors for about 1800 so I'll go that route. I will probably sell and upgrade to an lbz or lly right after the injectors are all done.

I've got the flat bed truck home now. Drove it 2hrs from where I picked it up and it performed well. Little bit of blue smoke that I need to track down though.

Either way, finances are beyond squeezed tight at the moment, so this is definitely going on the back burner for a month or two. I'm gonna be stupid tight paying for all the fuel, food etc to get down to KOH in a few weeks.

Yeah... I'll get around to it soon. I haven't been this tight for cash since I was in college, LOL! Not typically the case for me, and its kinda stressful!

Buying the safety gear kinda busted the bank on me, and I need to save every last penny for fuel on the way down. I'm gonna be paying credit cards off for a few months, I think! I was at zero debt last month, lol
