Project "RESPAWN" - 1972 K5 Blazer

Cool stuff here!
Pretty sure the wood train is different. There is a insert but underneath you
May not have the same pattern as a not wood grain piece. I've never taken one apart.

Wow, what a difference!
I know right, the passenger side door is entirely brown, so it will be an even bigger difference.

What the hell were they thinking with the brown? Jeez.

Well, the entire blazer was also spray painted black so... :doah:

The passenger side door looks good, the drivers side looks like it might need to be re skinned as it has a few creases and some rust spots on the lower outside, no rust on the bottom of either one though.

If you look closely, in the first pic there was kind of a dent in the middle top were the PO pushed to hard to open the door when he had the top off and was crossed up. I was able to get most of it out.

Check the upper windshield areas and the lower corners of the windshield near the cowl panel.... Also take a peek up underneath the rear bedfloor right underneath the tailgate area... Water and mud can get packed up there and will rot out the last couple inches of the bed from the inside out.

The upper windshield area looks great as well as the lower area but wouldn't know for sure until I removed the cowl.

Here are a few pics from the backside of the bed... and it looks like it has mud there, I will have to hit the car wash again and get it off... I hate mud.

If those rear bumper brackets are original they are worth their weight in gold.

I "assume" they are but who knows.

.. I hate mud.
I am with you on that one! Mud was fun to play in when I was younger but I quickly learned that the pain of cleaning it all out wasn't worth the fun. I avoid it like the plague now.

So...... given the amount of time you are spending on cleaning, etc. is it safe to assume this one is a keeper? :deal:

If the cleanup continues to go this well, you might end up not wanting to send it off to "bodyshop jail" for the summer. Maybe just keep on cleaning, detailing and enjoying it... clean the engine bay, give it a tune-up, fresh fluids, fix any leaks, etc.

Definitely pull the hardtop, vacuum out the interior (FIRST!) and then take it out for a drive. That should set the hook pretty hard on this 1st Gen love affair.

Those wood grained door panels are like gold too--when the doors on my '72 K5 got stolen, the local GM dealer searched the country for a NOS pair to replace mine, and could find only one in OK on a dealer's parts shelf gathering dust...I was told no more exist...they may make reproductions now, this was 1984...

I hate mud too--the kid I bought my '77 GMC K2500 from buried it good several times evidently--I tried multiple car washes, pressure washers, nothing took all the mud off, once our clay hardens up here, its like concrete...worst mud was at our local landfill, back when you had to drive up a huge gravel bank to dump your trash--let that stuff dry on your wheel wells ,you would have holes in them, the stuff was nasty from all the trash & garbage, like mud with battery acid!.
