Lofl. This is exactly what was happening to my square body just after highschool and that was like I suddenly looked at it after sitting for a winter and it was a mess.

There's like 2 or 3 flat layers there and a verticle piece that goes up the a pillar and the rocker. It all comes together on that support. Once it gets rot you either cut it all out or forget it.

I got lucky on the street truck. It was actually the bottom of the cab support itself that went bad. That was easy, I'd take that any day.

I dont really think I could ask for a suburban gas tank to fit any better in my custom tube frame s10 truggy lol. Im going to cut the center tube in the bed and build like a 12in square frame around the tank unit. The filler is going to have to be moved but not a big deal. I also decided to drop the rear frame legs behind the axle kinda like how the front has a step in it. This will give me some more lift in the back which Im going to need. Im pretty sure its already a little low in the back and theres no weight there yet. Just kinda trying to avoid needing to buy lift springs...20171101_173057.jpg 20171101_173111.jpg 20171101_173121.jpg 20171101_173131.jpg 20171101_173138.jpg

Reworked the bed. When I change the back frame section Ill be able to slide the tank back 2 more inches. I might be about to put the tapered end of the tank facing back instead of forward since it will be away from the rear diff more, which should aid in departure angle a little. Im going to get it hung with regular straps and worry about a skid later. I dont want to wrestle a 50lb skid to mount the tank, not that its ever going to come out because its going to have hatch over it but still.

What kind of contraption is that in place of your shackle?

I mean, I get how it works, but I don't understand the effort versus reward factor...

Is it that much better than a shackle? Won't it just end up being squeaky?

Edit: floor looks nice too!

I’ve seen guys use sliders auite a bit on the S10 forum, they seemed to wrk quite well.

The sliders achieve a few things. They tuck the springs up further, much further than a lift/flexy shackle setup. They also eliminate a pivot point/bushing the suspension can flop on, making it more stable. Plus they keep the truck lower and offer more travel w/o a big long shackle.

One of the worst parts of my old k10 truggy was the shackles hanging out the back. I slammed my shackles on everything I came down off of. Now whether this is a good idea because the next thing in line is my gas tank, we'll see. I'll probably put a crash bar just below my tank TBH to absorb the brunt of any 0 departure angle obstacles.

Alot of XJ guys use these and believe it or not circle track guys.

Dropped the rails last night. Decided Id spend my saturday hiding from the rain so I put the work car all the way up on the lift and pushed the s10 inside. This wound up being one of those "it couldnt have accidentally worked out better". I capped the back of the frame with a piece of 2x5 I had laying around from who knows what. Once I shoved the tank back in I spun it around and found the tapered part of the tank was dead even with the bottom of the 2x5 and that extending the back of the frame flush with the bed bought me enough room over the pumpkin to have the tank backwards like I was hoping. Im just grabbing lunch now at 4:30 and the wife won't be back home from work until 10. So time to get back out there and get some strap/brackets made and that tank mounted! Then the bed can come off, get all the rust scrubbed off and put in primer.

Looks good. Never think about shackles being fuel tank savers until you build something and are like hmm they would have helped a bunch.

Got the straps made, tank mounted, added in a mini crossmember to put the straps to when I realized the strap depression in the bottom of the tank didnt match the depressions in the top. I also made a couple risers to mount the back of the bed to the new crossmember. Im super happy with how tucked up the tank is and it not occupying cargo space. The truck is also sitting way better with the slider box moved down the 3 inches.

I might need an add a leaf in the future for cargo but I think plain lift wise things are going to work out. The suspension also really moves nice and easy. I was jumping up and down on it and cycling it a few inches each way. Those slider boxes really equate to an insane amount of travel at the wheel. Also shock placement looks like its going to be easy. Setup like the pictures but behind the axle tube and under the bed tube. Shooting for 4 inches of up and 8 inches down. The shock in the front says the front needs to still go up 2 inches which Im kinda surprised. Kinda seems like this thing is just aching to be on 35s :-/

Shocks went in way easier than I expected. Two easy prefabbed brackets top and bottom. I set it to 5in up and 8in down. I forgot these shocks have almost 13.5in of travel. Figured Id give a little more up just in case I take the zero rate out. Up front Im on the fence about raising it up 2-2.5 full inches... An inch I can see but I think I might need to consider either raising my shock tower or getting shorter shocks. I ran out of shock brackets so I gotta order another pair from Barnes, only got the passenger side done...

I'm sorry, did you just say 2.5 full inches?

Seems like the .5 is the red headed step child here...

:haha:

Still impressed with your abilities, I pick on what you say because I can't pick on what you do...

Lol thanks.

I'm just trying to not Jack the truck up to the point it looks dumb on 33s. Obviously the suspension needs a baseline to function properly and that idea in my head has always been 4 inches up travel. Then again I've always been on the fence with my tire size. I really like 255/85s because of the height to width. Q78 tsls are the same ratio they're 35.5x11 but not road friendly and expensive. I can get treadwrite 255/85s for $135 a tire vs a q78 type tire being $300+
