That's why I'm asking some questions but keep in mind, I'm not building a rock crawler. This has to do a lot of jobs one of them is towing and recovery work. It's going to need to be pretty stiff up there. I am not going to need a lot of travel honestly.
 
Here is another thing, I can go pull a set of these in the salvage yard or get a set for 100 bucks a piece for moch up. Then see what gives. If it works, I can upgrade to the fox versions, if not I can shit can the idea and break out the plasma cutter. No big loss.
 
I think it might be at least worth giving a shot. I can set right height in the upper mounts. They will of course be big goofy mounts but if it works....well, it works.

You have to remember no one here goes thru the trouble of doing coil over to get 9" of travel they can have more with just leaf spring.
In your case I believe they will do the job and not break the bank.
 
Here is a list of spring rates for the struts you are looking at.
5.4L Scab Front 560 lbs/in/spring
6.2L Scab Front 594 lb/in/spring
6.2L Screw Front 640 lb/in/spring
That’s pretty stiff. 1100lbs to compress the front suspension 1”. 3300lbs for 3” of compression. And that’s if you find a set out of a 5.4 truck. If you do this I would definitely look into getting lighter coils.

I'm just putting some thought to an idea a friend had. To me it still sounds doable. I'm sure there would need to be some adjustment with the spring rates to get it right. There are replacement springs available in just about any rate. There might be a possible problem with the physical size of them going into the wheel well but I doubt it.

Listed spring rates start for a 6700 lb truck. The guy that put this idea in my head actually owns a Ford Raptor. So I think I'll go play with his truck and see.

I doubt it would be all that much of a difference. Even if it dropped down to a 500lb spring that’s still 1000lbs for 1” of travel. As far as I understand it the IFS has the spring mounted say half way out on the control arm and uses a lot of leverage to compress it. I hope I’m not totally screwed up on spring rates here. On your setup it’s like a 1:1 ratio compressing the spring where it’s gotta be 3:1 or something like that? Hence the heavier spring rate. With a 560lb spring it might end up with the shock being most of the way topped out. Just my .02... like I said I’m no expert on this stuff. I was just thinking about doing the same thing with my wife’s 11 Ram 1500. I had a set of axles out of a 3/4 ton and tossed around the idea of using the struts that are on the ifs as they aren’t factory.

I may get to try it for nearly free. My buddy that has the raptor has a set of stock struts from his truck. he replaced them with a set from Icon which he said were much softer. I'll go pick up his stock ones next week and do some playing with them. I think they are adjustable where the stock f-150 versions are not. As I said, if it works then cool. If it doesn't it's not a big deal to cut out the mounts and change them for traditional coil over shocks. They won't change the setup on the axle at all.
