89 K5 37s H1s 465 swap 241c sye Tub swap rust free
Picked this up today. Will be stripping it down and painting. Been looking for one for a few years now. Surfing FB market place and a guy was selling blazer parts he never mentioned this in the ad, just happened to see it in the background of one of the pics of rusty junk he was peddling so I asked about it. 2hr drive one way but was worth it. Used to be alot more of these when I was in highschool it seems. That was awhile ago.

So this isn't exactly blazer related but still keeping old stuff going so kinda on the same field as K5s. I love old coleman stuff. Not sure why. Guess it reminds me of when I was a kid. Stove was never fired when I got it, from 1975, Backpacking stove (small single burner) my dad bought new for us backpacking 84ish. Cooler 1979, lantern from 1978 All work great. I know newer coolers hold ice longer, but I cant explain it old stuff is better.

Haven't done much to the blazer lately. This has all been done multiple times so nothing earth shattering. Started on crossover steering. The old box was puking and the stock steering is just ok on the street and sucks offorad (as in doesn't work). Put a plate on to strengthen the frame but I have heard when you go to crossover the leverages are all different and aren't so hard on the frame anymore. Anyway not finished but here is where it's at.

Broke an ear off of my steering box with a plate on the frame and a brace and crossover steering. If that plate isn’t dead flat against the frame, it’ll flex and something will give.

My thought has always been that crossover stresses the frame differently but still just as much or more because now turning the wheel is trying to push the box off the frame. With push pull it’s trying to slide it back and forth on the frame.

Did it break when you were tightening it down or after installed and driving?

After installed and driving. Took nearly a year. But I was backing out of a parking spot in o’reilly’s (ironic) and heard a bang and the steering got weird. Only broke one of the ears off but it was twisting the frame so bad I couldn’t risk driving it.

What size wheel spacers are you using, ride looks nice.

Finally got some time to button the cross over steering up. Much tighter. The new steering box is 3.5 turns lock to lock, the old one I think was 4.5. Didn't really realize how much play was in the old set up. It almost seems too tight. Maybe I will take a look at the backlash adjustment. But it will drive a lot more first, might not be used to it being right.
