Questions about 454 swap

A 6.2L is still smaller than a 454,
Not to mention that it's a F*rd.... Lol !

I have never wrapped a set of header since the wrap cand hold junk to help kill the headers. If you use a good quality high torque direct drive, or a good gear reduction starter, then no problems. (Good cables help)
I like the ceramic coating a lot.

I plan to talk to Pat about a starter.

Another advantage to merging into one pipe is only needing to buy 1 muffler.

I don't think I would buy headers that didn't have at least 3/8" flanges. I learned my lesson on cheap headers the hard way with our 71 Cuda.

These Hedman headers look like a good set: https://m.summitracing.com/parts/hed-69851

Concern I have is they are for my truck, an 89 R3500, so I know the frame isn't an issue. I'm concerned that they may hit the spring shackles since they were made for 2wd.

I think as a compromise on headers I may run these: https://m.summitracing.com/parts/snh-bb8-sec

Downside is they don't have the ball and socket connection.

You may have clearance problems at the shackles with long tubes even when the company says that they will fit. I had one that had to get the headers bent towards the engine, 2 more that had friendly rubbing... all 3 were supposed to fit.

I wonder if the braided flex pipes last, but more money.....

Here I is.... the headers I got seem to be pretty decent for the price. I can get a link for you if you want. The only issue I ran into is with the passenger side clearing the frame rail BUT when I looked at the header it looks like one of the primary tubes was bent in the wrong spot and it pushed the tube out toward the frame. I notched the frame out and flattened out the primary a little. Also I thought the collector angle was going to suck but once I got my crossmember built for my trans/t-case it raised the back of the motor up and helped it a lot. I have a trick for the collector gaskets that hasn't failed yet. I'll post a pic for you tomorrow. It's way simple.

Cool going BB.

I used Dougs Headers on my BB Suburban. They fit great and have thick flanges.

I also ran duel 2.5 inch, but single 3 inch is fine as all the TBI BB trucks came single exhaust and they ran pretty good with a good muffler

2.5 exhaust pipe is big enough on a big block. I would run long tube headers either wrapped or ceramic coat. I run a dual fan like the one pictured on my 383 off a chrysler from the junk yard $20 and it over-cools.

I am a study the crap out of it before doing it kinda guy so I appreciate any info and pictures.

I've purchased individual pieces but I didn't know they had kits too.
Mine was just a builder kit with bends and straights all mandrel bent. It was only 2.25" but was just $190 . They have other sizes and SS ones too. I did the rear half of my blazer and have tons of pipe leftover.

I am about to embark on this same trek; swap starts next month. I am swapping in a TBI 454 into my '91 v2500. Already running the BBC radiator with the stock fan shroud, so I believe I will be ok. Had the TBI rebuilt by SPR Performance and going to use the Edelbrock 3764 TBI intake. My cam is the Comp Cams 260AH and got a custom chip from Harris to support. I want to go with Doug Thorley's Tri-Y ceramic coated, but worried to on the overall fitment. May go with ceramic coated shorties like John's (nvrenuf).
