Quick th400 np205 question

I bought a th400/np203 combo and i just found a th400/np205 combo and another np205 32 spline. Not sure how much he wants for the seperate np205 but i emailed him. I want to get the right np205 for a doubler. Does it matter which one i get, long or short out put for the double if im getting custom drive shafts anyway?

So there is a long and short input as well as a long and short output? How do I tell the differance? What is a reasonable price for a 32 spline np205?

There are only fixed or slip outputs. I suppose you could call the slip a long output though.

There are a few variations of the 205.
There are 10, 27, 32 spline inputs
Short or long 32 spline input
Fixed rear yoke
Slip rear yoke
10 spline front output
30 spline front output
front yoke output
front flange output

As you can see there are quite a few variations to choose from. You can't get everything you may want in one unit though without swapping parts.

Fixed it for ya. If you want 32 spline front output you can swap one from a ford 205. Also with the short or long inputs. Most Doubler adapters require the short input. Sumner machine's doubler adapter is the only one I know of that can use the long input

The long input is only found on the round pattern 205's 1985 and later. It sticks out like 4"s or so. The short input sticks out just over an 1", I beleive

So what do I want? 32 short input, yoke front output, fixed yoke rear? What are the the pros/cons of each front output choice?

What tranny/t-case combo is currently in your rig? That will determine which combo of offers you need to keep from having to buy a new driveshaft for the front.

I have to get custom drive shafts anyway because the k5 didn't come with any and there have been lots of modifications i.e. axle swaps etc. Don't even know what it started with. Now its got a 350/400/203 10b front/14b rear. What should I look for? The guy emailed me back and told me it has the short 32 spline input. I am still finding out about the outputs. Is $400 too much to pay for the np205 32 spline (short) and the adapter to go to my th400?

You should look for a short 32 spline input, 30 spline front output that will have a flange. All 205's are 32 spline rear output but you want one with a fixed rear yoke. $400.00 for a short 32 spline input with the adapter isn't bad but if you looked around i'll bet you could do better.

Ok so are all the flanged front outputs 30 spline? He emailed me back and said it has a flanged front output and a slip yoke rear, but he has a fixed yoke he will swap for $75. That brings the total to $475 for a 32 spline short input, flanged front and fixed yoke rear. Deal or no deal? Thanks for all the great info guys!

if swaping out 203 to 205 on th400 you will need tranny reman to swap out tail shaft. so get the tail shaft also from the tcase only guy.

The 205 im looking at came off a th400. The 203 I have has the same input as the 205 and the 205 is coming with the adaptor. I don't think I will need to change the tail shaft. So once again does anybody know if the front flanged outputs are all 30 spline? How hard is it to install a slip yoke eliminator? How much are they and where can I get them?

So your 203 came off a TH400?

Yes all flanged 205's are 30 spline front output (unless someone has swapped in a ford 32 spline output which is even better).

There are no slip yoke eliminators for a 205, it's just a matter of swapping the rear output from a fixed yoke 205 (all factory parts).

Yes I bought a th400 with a np203 and a 10 spline np205 was thrown in with the deal. The np205 has a 10 spline input. Not sure on the rest. I will run down a look in a minute. Playing in a poker tourney right now. Does that require disassembling the 205 to change the rear output? How hard is it? Do you think this is a decent deal or not? Or should I just convert the np205 ive got? But then what about the adaptor?
