Ram now has a light diesel

That's only def ( diesel exhaust fluid) though. It's urea. It has egr for sure though. Egr is Totally independent of def. That's my point engines that only use egr. Push anywhere between 30-60% exhaust gas back into the intake to meet emissions.

Engines that also use DEF, push only 5-15% exhaust back into the intake. Def is an after treatment of the exhaust gas, it doesn't try to choke the engine down to create less emissions gasses. the engines are healthier with more def and less egr.

Or wait a while until deletes are availiable. And fix them permanently.

The DEF is a synthetic urine basically like natural urea. It is also corrosive so I wouldn't really think it's better for your engine even if it's only 15% of the exhaust. It's not needed if you run B100 but the new trucks will not let you run B100. Why? Tinfoil hats anyone.:D

Should I be running B100 in my beetle?

Hi Rich,
B100 is 100% biodiesel or veg oil. I do not know of a source were it is sold. Most guys make their own and for some reason the new diesels cannot run on 100% bio fuel. Most is made with vegetable oils and the exhaust emissions are almost nothing. You would think the gov. would use all the corn for veg oil instead of ethanol and make B100 if they really cared about the environment but they don't. I believe they've made the new diesels run on dino fuel only with a slight mix of veg possibly to keep people from avoiding the pump and paying their taxes. It's not about air quality. You would have to look at your manual and it would tell you if you could run b100. Most likely the most will be b20 (20% veg oil, 80% dino).

Ted

Def doesn't go IN your engine. You don't burn it.

It's injected into the exhaust, that what the after treatment device does.

Thanks for that bit of knowledge. I knew not to run 100% bio diesel, but the diesel world is relatively new to me so I'm learning as I go. I wasn't familiar with hearing it called b100.

Yup, I wasn't really thinking right. I was thinking of the gases being recycled but the DEF is injected after all that stuff. I still think its a bunch of crap to stop the soot. The new fuel has lowered the sulfur so now they go after the visible smoke or soot even though gasoline pollutes more, you just can't see it. Again, they should promote b100. Instead they force us to use Dino fuel. These new diesels you should at least be able to run the b100 if it's owner chooses to put it in their vehicle. It is not about air quality.

The engine in the new RAM is built by VM motori, in Cento, Bologna, Italy, not far from me.
They are now 100% owned by FIAT group, this happened like 2 months ago.
The previous shareholder was 51% FIAT and 49% GM (in fact VM Motori was part of the aborted merginf of FIAT and GM).
GM had that engine (in its previous itaration) readly available so I don't really think VM is interestd in a small engine like that.. probably a smaller displacement Duramax (some say smaller in all, some say same engine but with 2 cyl taken away), btw VM Motory is a small company (compared to other engine manufacturer) but they are big in R&D developement and in engine quality (as an example they was the supplier of the diesel engine for the Volkswagen Amarok pickup).
It is hard for me to understand why it is so difficult for GM previously or FIAT now to flood the US market with the Diesel engine soo many are asking for (as another example: in europe the Wrangler are 95% diesel with a 4 cyl VM engine.. but in the US, no matter how hard they ask for it a readly available model isn't sold.. mistery)
Anyway I see a lot of project fore diesel car that can be exported to the US (the upcoming Fiat 520/334 platform aka B-Suv where the 520 is a small Jeep and the 334 is the same car with FIAT brand) but I don't have other news of diesel engine going to the US, at last from FIAT group (I work in a company owned by FIAT).

Ram also offers air ride all the way around on their half tons. It comes standard with coils in the rear not leaf springs.

One thing about that though is it's not air ride if there's springs in the suspension. Might be air shocks, but it's not air ride. they also utilize an 8 speed automatic.

You need to reread my post I said they offer air ride but coil springs are standard in the rear.

good to hear from a close source!

There's gonna be a diesel in the new Canyon. No details in this article yet.

UNDER THE HOOD: Two aluminum-block engines in first year, a 193-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a 3.6-liter V6 with an estimated 302 horsepower. In second year, a diesel will be available. Six-speed automatic transmissions; two- or four-wheel drive.

Colorado. That was announced a while back. In '15 model year. A 4 cylinder "duramax" turbo diesel.

If it's priced right. It'll be awesome.

Are the Ram 1500 diesels on dealer lots yet? I can't wait to test drive one.

Btw apparently Gale Banks bought the distribution rights for the VM 3.0L diesel. He believes in the engine that much.

There is other big news, and unfortunately we have to wait until the Colorado's second year to see it, but there will be a third engine added to the options list for the 2016 model year: a 2.8-liter Duramax I-4. Chevrolet hasn't announced power numbers yet, but in the global truck, it produces 197 hp and 369 lb-ft. While we expect that the diesel's hp and torque will be slightly lower here because it will use an aftertreatment system
