Box it? (Diy4x frame box kit)
Plate it on the outside?(make my own)
Or leave it and add in extra cross members along with the cage and boat side.
Just So everyone knows my cage, boatsides, and body will be hard mounted to the frame no bushings.
I gotcha. Yeah the plan is for the cage to tie into 8 different points of the frame. 4 on each side. The boat side's will also tie into both the frame and cage at 4 more separate points.A cage will add more rigidity to the frame then boxing if done right. That being said I plated the front of my k5 with 3/16. Made mounting the hoops for the shocks real easy.
honestly I'm in debate still on suspension. I'm leaning towards leAfs right now but if I can save up some extra cash in the next month or too I might link it.Links or leafs?
I think I would build my own frame from rectangle tube before boxing a frame again. It's a ton of work.....
Yeah I have a plasma and a bunch of 3/16 and 1/8 lying around so plating it may be the way to go.If you have a plasma, time, and some plate laying around go for it.
I cut cardboard templates and traced those over to steel plate and plasma cut them. Then trim (grind) to fit from there. However you have to plan out your crossmembers and those that need to be removed with some sort of attachment points. I chose to weld flanged nuts on the inside of the frame before I boxed it so I can bolt skids, crossmembers, bumper tie-ins etc. There's a ton of pics in my build thread if you want to take a look at what I did.

Good to know just started reading through that one. I missed a lot of new threads since I fell off the forum for a bit.Kerts build has S.E.R.E (im pretty sure that's it) In the title in case anyone wants to search for it.
Yeah I follow Matt. That truck is absolutely sick! Love the bed he just built for it.If you're on Instagram look for Matt Kime, he just finishing up a rectangle box frame.
Kert at DIY4X built one as well, there's a thread on here somewhere.

Yeah I think the square tube frame will work best for me cause now I'm really leaning towards setting the motor back more and linking the truck. Figured if I'm gonna do this a second time around why not go for gold and build it like I've been dreaming about. Been following Matt kimes build for a while on instagram and that truck is really inspiring. Gives a lot of different ideasMy goal was to build one, but i found a decent frame I just decided to plate and use the damn thing rather than get caught up in the build.

I'm enjoying the Dunefest pics as well. I need to make it up there one year.
