Rdn2blazer 73’ K5 build thread (random pics)

I love your K5 project too, man. I'm just eager to see it back together. I really don't have room to talk since I have my K20 driveable, but without 4wd, and my 1 ton has no engine or t-case linkage in it.:doah: But here I am pestering you instead of working on my crap.:D

I'm still in awe of anyone who actually finishes a full build. I don't actually know how they do it. God knows I'm trying like hell, I guess it will get finished someday. I think about selling my dirt bike to fund it but don't want to, I think about selling my $3500 mountain bike I bought but don't want to. I think about selling my crew cab project but sure as hell don't want to. All I know is when it does get finished I will one of the happiest people on the face of the planet.

by then gas will be 5$ a gallon again....:haha:

Yeah, and I'm building a BBC for mine...at least it won't need racing gas.

I finally finished the rear seat brackets for the Mastercraft bench. Because of head room I wanted the rear seat as low to the floor as possible but, still be cage mounted for safety. I mounted a 3/16 plate to the floor using the factory seat & seat belt holes that have the doubler underneath. The doubler pictured I made for one of the seat bracket locations. Its spot welded in. I want the floor to be flat as possible when the rear seat is not in too. IF I ever need to sleep in the back I don't want to be laying on tubing. So, I figured out a way to go about this. The plate is bolted using flat head fasteners which I will use when the seat is removed. So the only rise will be the 3/16 plate. I plan on cutting large cut outs to lighten the plate too. Just not there yet.

While the seat is in I'm using grade 8 hex head bolts in the front mount point and coated allen socket heads in the rear mount point. Can't get a swivel socket on a hex head bolt very easily so socket head it is. They exceed grade 8 anyways. I like options so I wanted the rear seat to adjust somewhat. It adjusts 3inches forward and back. In the rearward most posistion it's very comfortable for me. In the forward posistion it's decent but a tad cramped for me. I have long legs so it will be fine for most anybody. The seat has a nice tilt to it for comfort.

I dropping tube from the cage and welding it to the 3/16 plate at all four corners. will triangulate them aswell. Work in progress. Got the seat perfectly centered between the wheel wells with about a 1/4 in on each side to spare. Stoked with how it's turning out. What do ya think?

More pics. Also made this Aluminum rail that mounts behind the rear seat. It's to protect the seat when things are slid in so they won't hit and tear up the seat. And for bungie hook points all the way across for gear tie down points. This rail does'nt slide forward with the rear seat.

Seat brackets will come off for powdercoat. The entire cage will too.

It's looking awesome man. now get it finished and maybe we'll actually both have a functioning rig and can go wheeling.

They'll be done tomorrow. They are 75% welded now still clamped in the fixture.

Very cool! :waytogo:

The only thing that bugs me about those benches is that there is no head rest. Bad news if you take a serious hit to the rear in an accident or roll.
