Rdn2blazer 73’ K5 build thread (random pics)

Very cool! :waytogo:

The only thing that bugs me about those benches is that there is no head rest. Bad news if you take a serious hit to the rear in an accident or roll.

I thought about that when I bought it, but was advised against it for rear view visibility. My son's head still is below the top of the seat. More then likely there will hardly ever be someone back there other then my boy from time to time. When it's he and I out wheelin he will sit shotgun anyways. Momma won't go alot I doubt. Won't be daily driven when it's done. In a side to side roll a seat head rest without a head restraint system won't do ya any good anyways. I should have gotton the seat with removable headrests though. Could leave them out most of the time until people were back there. Ohwell, what done is done now though.

I got the rear seat mounting plate welded in. Four down tubes to the corners. Also machined the seat pivots, brackets & pivot pucks. Still not sold on the idea. Actually I love the idea of having it tilt IF I need the extra room behind the seat, just not totally happy with how it will mount and convienence of avtually tiltin it. If I want to tilt it, I have to remove four bolts (no big deal) But then I have the pick the seat up and over the rear down tubes slightly, which will scratch up the powder coating on the cage & seat brackets when their coated, cause the seatbrackets are wider then the two rear down tubes. Then bolt the tilt brackets down with the pucks engaged in the seat bracket holes, Raise the front of the seat to the top of the slot, then tilt it. It would only be "IF necessary" ofcourse. I could just keep the brackets in the truck at all times and only use them IF I have to. The seat pivots SOOO smoothly, it works awesome. Also need to figure out a "lockout" while the seat is tilted. Nice flat area in back with no tube in the way. Can lay and still sleep back there with the tail gate closed. Openions please.

Couple more. Gains about a foot and a half of bed room from where the back of the seat would normally be. Tilts almost 90 deg.

well get on it and sell something to finance the trip

I am seriously thinking about selling my duel sport dirt bike to help fund this build. I have a bad ass little Kawasaki KX100 I like to ride when I ride with my son on his dirt bike. I actually have more fun on it then riding with my friends on tough trail rides. I have some truck parts I should sell. My bud keeps trying to get me to sell off my crew cab project but keep all the drive train and axles and motor. Just don't want to do that at all. I love my crew cab. I think I would rather sell my suburban then the crew cab. Burbs are a dime a dozen, crews are harder and harder to come by now a days.

I don't want to short cut the K5 project now, so somethings got to go to help fund it to build it the way I want to biuld it.

I really like the plate added to the floor, I have not yet seen that approach and it looks to have really simplified things:waytogo:

You doing mostly pushing on your mig welds?

Thanks man, I weld both ways, what ever is convenient, depends on posistion and access.

Got my DIY4X4 tube doors!!!! I'm stoked big time. I tried making a tube door. I bent one up but didn't finish it. It's decent design but no where near as nice as Kert's. Hence the reason I decided to buy them instead of make them. I'm going to heavily modify these doors. You will see they will be even more bad ass when I'm done.
