Rdn2blazer 73’ K5 build thread (random pics)

Rob doesn't tell very many people, but this rig the very rare John DeLorean concept Blazer equipped with the cutting edge Flux Capacitor. This was the predecessor to the DeLorean DMC-12.

Maybe if Rob could take a little time off work, he would hover it around for us, or take us on a trip thru time.:dunno:

Rob dont let these webwheelers get you down, hasnt anyone banned that chickenrammit yet? :flipoff10::flipoff6::flipoff8::flipoff9: :flipoff11::flipoff3:

It's all good fun. No worries. I can't do anything about it as I can afford to do a damn thing on it right now so it is what it is I guess.

Roads? Where we're going, Marty, we won't need roads!

I have virtually no strength to dive back into my K5 project with what from healing from my brain surgery. BUT!!! The want is there in a HUGE HUGE WAY indeed! I desperately miss working on my rig big time. I don't have ANY idea just how I'm going to go about doing it. But thats my goal is to TRY and get my mind wrapped around a starting point again and get to work. Not saying you guys will see a ton of progress coming soon, but the itch is getting bad bad bad. I need to get to work on it damn it. Just getting my garage in order HAS to happen before anything really. Need to organize my tools, parts stuff. Just throwing it out there.

hey Rob, maybe start with a task list for completion...that should be easier on you physically, then maybe clean up or something light?

Thanks, yeah it's got to be a list type something small to start with. Lists are always good. I have probably 10 laying around and in my wallet now as it is. But a new one is indeed in order. Waiting on my buddy to get me my cherry picker back home so I can yank the motor out and strt working toward the 454 I have for it going in. Sell the 383 in it now to fund something else.

Just saw this thread for the first time (linked from the shop build thread). Rob, that cage is tits, man! And the rear seat mounts too! I know life's got you busy with other stuff right now, and I love following the shop build, but I can't wait to see what else you have in store for this one

Thanks man, appreciated. Its been too long a road back from the brink of death and brain damage. But I am still freaking here and ticking just fine. For the Win! :saweet: :haha:. Time for some more of :hack:, and a little more of :weld:, and lots of $$$$ and she will be good to go. :cool1:

I've seen a couple of pics w/ this small external cage outside the one you fabbed. What is that? Kinda looks like it's for conduit or something...? Soft top?

Wow, out of the blue I started working the tailgate dent on the K5 yesterday. Its a top edge dent that swells the sheetmetal and creases it if bad enough. This dent was not super severe. But still is Not an easy repair. Having to go up through the tailgate handle. Trying to get the low spot raised so I can beat it back down to flush.

Its hard not to make dimple dents upward in just the wrong spot doing this. Not easy to place the 1/4 extension exactly without being able to see. I’m going by feel. Raised small dimple dents can be beat back down. Not easy to hit the end of the extension with a big dead blow to get the metal to move while holding the extention.

Its working but a slow process. What a pain in the ass lol.

The end of the extension is close to the sheetmetal or if I add extention so I don’t hit the tailgate it puts it down by the rear welded in crossmember. The deadblow is just sticking through the reciever square hole to hold the hammer what I positioned the extension to smack with it. 1/4 or 3/8 long extensions were the quickest easiest thing to come up with to beat the dent out with.

Thursday June 20, posting and pulling this back up since I’m starting to get back on it. :saweet:
You know there are people waiting for you to get on it quick and finish it, if you have everything for it or at least lined up let me know so we can organize a wrenching party and get you on a trail before it's too late

Working on all this now. Baring I don’t kill my self first! I just fell off our dock! Thank god I didn’t actually hit my head, but body slamming the ground from standing up on a 4’ dock almost knocked me into a seizure just now damnit! I’m all scraped up and bruised up. Freakin idiot! I was moving cardboard boxes away from the K5 so I can get to work. Didn’t realize I was That close to the edge of the doc, one step down I went, raking off the doc edge. That’s what scraped me up, then slamming the filthy driveway wasn’t much fun either. Dip shit lol! Truck wasn’t parked there but that’s the doc I fell off of.

I temporarily bolted up the billet Hawse fairlead to my tube bumper. It fit nicely. I need to powder coat or anodize it. I’m getting the engine bay cleaned up and ready to detail. The bed of the K5 is cleaned out. I’ve got to finish up the tube work. Rock sliders, and finish modifying the front bumper so it bolts up. Then a million other things to do.

At least I’m finally working on it again. I’ve barly got any energy, but I am completely solo. I don’t touch its not getting done. So work and make progress on it or give in and quit. Nope! Not happening. Soon as possible I will have a running big block in the damn thing.

We forklifted my K5 inside the building on the dock. I told my buddy I’m going to jump it out of the building off the dock when its together. :D :saweet:.
I started scraping pain off too. Got a fender almost done. I can still lay flat with my tailgate closed with my cage it the K5. Easily with the tailgate down as long as its not too cold. Going to finish my soft top build as well.

Glad to see you back at it. Don't over do it though, you need to make sure you get enough rest. Your body has enough going on. And quit falling off of docks... lol
