Like what was mentioned earlier, not all of us on here go into the same type of wheeling that you do. The same answer for everyone is not always the right answer..........

Weight factor ??? I really don't see that as a big issue in a vichile as heavy as a K5 or Burb.

[/ QUOTE ]
More weight=more stressed parts=breakage. You might want to do research into the area of fiberglass body parts contributions to the race world.

Let me let ya in on something. Out of all the four wheeling runs/off road races I've been to, in the area of trucks that were in almost stock form, I've only seen one rearend break....Want to take a guess on what it was? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I'll even do ya one better on that subject, I'm liable to be interviewing that same person at some point this summer and I'll see if I can get y'all non-believers some insight to this.

So you are so concerned with weight /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. Why dont you take out the t-case and front axle /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. It does't sound like you need them any way, with glass body parts. I can see spending money on a 1/2 ton rear If you are going to race and jump, with IFS 2WD. If that is the case, get a ford 9".

IF IT A REAL 4X4 DONT SPEND A LOT ON 1/2 TON. It will cost as much as switching to 1 ton and is not even in the same game.

I mean really, he didnt say he was going to pre-run in a 2x /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

what do you mean you have the 3/4 ton version 14ff?

the only difference between a one ton and 3/4ton 14ff are the spring perches, everything else is the same strenght............

[/ QUOTE ] Just ment it came out of a 3/4 ton truck.

For pure speed a 2wd would be better. But this is the way I plan on setting up my truck. There is something classic and just plain psychotic to wanting to run a straight axle Chevy in the desert. This is something that I've spent hours upon hours upon researching and talking to people who know and done this know. How much time have you spent talking with someone who has extensive knowledge and experience on the same platform? The amount of "know it all about axles for all facets" experts we have swarming this thread is outstanding.

You should really go back and reread some of the posts in this thread. What
CRAWLIN70 stated is the truth. I just happened to be there for his truck's last run. And for further enlightening, you should step over to the 73-91 Forum for this thread.
More real world 1/2 ton experience.

What in your mind constitutes a real 4x4? That's a bullsh*t, close-minded attitude that can quickly turn someone off to this sport and should not be accepted. I don't run around acting like I'm a 4x4 know-it-all so until you show me that you actually know something about the way I want to set up my truck, I'll greatly appreciate it if you keep your close mindedness to yourself. Thank you.

I for one wouldn't run anything less than a 14B FF and a Dana 60 in the mall parking lot.

Whar ever man. You have 6673 posts, and I have 154, I wonder who should learn to keep there mouth shut.

Er dude, why y'all taking this thread down into the gutter for?

Y'all the one who started to discuss the mechanical make-up of a real 4x4, and I would really like to know the answer myself, as I'm sure a few hundred people would too. But instead of answering some simple questions, all you can do is make some cheaper than free dumba** remark about post counts.

I'd really like to read what you have to say on this subject, otherwise; if y'all feel the need to make some more useless comments about absolutely nothing, I'm sure there's an opening at that other website.

geee I wonder....the problem with posts like these is that people just cant seem to remember that we all wheel/drive/own our trucks for different reasons...There is NO RIGHT answer to the question of what size axles we each should be running. If I went 1 ton- which some say is better- would be completely ridiculous since I dont wheel. If I put 37's or bigger on my 1/2 ton- who are you (nobody in particular) to tell me I cant do that cause there gonna cause my axles to blow up.

If I like Mickey Thompson tires- and you like Super Swampers- who are you to tell me my tirs suck. As who am I to tell you yours suck.

This type of post is really getting out of hand, and it's causing animisity between members. One thing we here at ck5 have a hard time remembering- is that we all have opinions...relax, deal with it...sort of like the real world, your not going to agree with someone 100% all the time- grow up, act your damn age, and move on.

it really is interesting that this post- which has turned into nothing more than a p*ssing match between members has received more interest than my post which was giving away a membership.

okay I'm done being a b*tch now, carry on

Another thing everyone needs to realize is that going 3/4 ton or 1 ton isnt as cheap as everyone says. Sure you can pick up a 14 FF for 100 bucks, but after you put new bearings in it, new gears, new brakes, and a locker you will spens just as much. Same as the front. When you put used stuff in, alot of times they have over 100,000 miles and need work.

And I run a 12 bolt with alloy axles on 38.5" SXs in the burb /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
