Rear traction bar discussion.

Any traction bars out there for trucks with a 12b? Or should I just wait until I go 14b?
 
Taking my kids Honda back to him tomorrow that I have been working on after he rear ended a pickup. So then I can get started on the jimmy. But it will still be a few weeks. Gotta get another paycheck or sell some of my parts to fund the driveshaft and flange etc.

I am sure you could make the ORD one work, but if you are switching to a 14 bolt, I would just wait.

I had horrible axle wrap issues and even killed a few drive shafts until I built my rear traction bar

Here's what I built for the big S/F axle. I used RuffStuff brackets, which actually fit the 10b/12b fine. I had to grind them out to fit the bigger 14b tubes. Their kit includes the axle brackets, the curved brackets on the back of the bar, the bushings, bushing tubes and bolts. That saves a lot of fab time. If you just bought an extra set of axle brackets, you could weld those onto the 14B before you swap it in and reuse the traction bar you built for the 12B. The holes would only be about 1/2" further forward, which would probably be just fine with the shackle.

This is pretty standard stuff, with a Ballistic joint and bushing up top. The shackle is a stock front spring shackle. With this style, there is very little choice in where to put the brackets on the axle tube. It has to be close to the pumpkin on the side opposite the exhaust. I couldn't find any way to make it work with dual exhaust, so you can see the double muffler I swapped to.

Also, it's standard practice to weld the axle tubes to the pumpkin while doing this, to avoid turning a tube. If you're ever planning to have the axle out of the vehicle, that job is much easier then.
 
It's not uncommon. You're putting a lot of twisting force on the axle tube. Another option would be a truss; that's what I did.
 
Mine is similar to Averys. I welded my tubes as well. It works very well when the tires are spinning. I have noticed there is a LOT of antisquat in my design. If the tires have traction it will push the rear suspension up under power! :eek1:

I welded mine. I also have one of Kert's Backbones, it's a truss that connects both tubes and the center section with the traction bar.
