Rear traction bar discussion.

My thoughts / hopes are that the combo of the additional factory braces plus a large skid plate bolted to each crossmember (the full width of the flat run of the crossmember) it would be strong enough. :dunno:

As far as the position of the shackle on the crossmember, I'm guessing it would be 1/3 of the way in from the frame rail because the single traction bar needs to be as close to center as possible so I doubt it would be real close to the extra braces.

Fyi, I'm trying to avoid a square tube crossmember / cradle set up because it looks like it would have to be lower than the stock crossmember to fit between the 4spd / 203 (tall adapter).
I think you should be ok that way

Makes ya regret all the crossmembers we’ve all discarded over the years back when we thought there was never gonna be an end to all these Chevrolet parts.
Yeah I got rid of a dozen, and only kept 6, and a couple of braces.
Problem is I am on the wrong coast

That’s the beauty of UPS, they’re everywhere. lol If you’re interested in selling the braces, shoot me a price. (I may have found a couple of crossmembers)

You want one or 2 braces?
Meaning both sides.

Wonder where @Larry sourced that skid plate.

I have this one View attachment 506994
On my k20. Ebay seller says k30 specific. Prices fir these are nuts
I have a few of these skid plates in the 1/2 ton 3/4 ton flavor if there is a difference.
I thought the difference was just the crossmember because of the taller frame section

Gee, thanks. I had one of those with the double crossmembers off of my old '79 K30.
I would bet that I sent it to scrap years ago and now it's worth money..
:doah:

As far as I know the actual skid plate is the same between K5’s, 10’s, 20’s & 30’s until ‘81 when GM switched to the shovel head type skid plate and dropped the dual crossmember option.

Just for reference here is a dual crossmember with skid plate from my old ‘77 K10 and the other is a steel shovel head type skid plate from my ‘83 K3500.
