Greetings and good morning to all CK5 owners! I was wondering "IF" you can remove a currently installed Chevrolet 208C transfer case and replace it with a Chevrolet 241C transfer case on a 1987 Chevrolet Suburban 4WD? Just wondering if anyone has done it. Thanks!!

Yes you can, need to check a few things

Input spline count
Overall length for driveshafts
The speedometer drive

Hey THANKS Brent77!!! I just wasn't sure since the 1987 Suburban I restored now has manual locking hubs and I remember my old 1994 Suburban 4X4 (241C transfer case) had no provisions for any manual locking/unlocking of the front hubs. Now I remember the 94 4X4 front axle had a gas charged device that would expand out and lock the front differential when moving the floor 4WD lever into 4WD. I noticed the cast iron transfer case adapter for the 4l60E-241C set up is the same cast iron case adapter as the 700R4-208C set up. But I am curios as to how many different case adapters (Aluminum/cast iron) were used between the Blazers and Suburban's on the square body's, just food for thought. Rock on Chevy's!!!!!

A 1994 has a driver side drop transfer case, just incase you had forgotten that. You will want to find a 241 from an '89 suburban or Blazer. Those are the only year and models that have mechanical speedometer on a passenger drop 241.

Thanks for the reply 6877xtc, yep, I did forget that part. Thanks for the reminder.

If the NP241c is a 1989, then it is a straight bolt up to the 1987 shifter and all. That is if they have the same input spline count. 27 spline =700R4, 32 spline = th400 or manual 465.

Thanks for the reply franklin5, my search continues, I just see a lot of 95 and up Chevy transfer cases out there but not too many 208's. MANY thanks!!

See @Capt Ron . He's usually got a couple kicking around that he digs out of boneyards. He's got a couple up in the for sale section right now.

Would you know it he has any spare parts? I am looking for a range fork casting number 338. For a np241c passenger drop. For my 1990 K5

Sorry, I do not have any for parts. All I have are complete 241s.

Thanks Capt. Ron. I did find a 208C but it took awhile. Thanks for at least getting back with me. Hope you have a SUPER week! Be safe!!

@Capt Ron

Is the range fork the same for NP208 and NP241?
Sorry, I have no idea. Might try @Larry he is way smarter then me on these things. I do still have a 208 stashed at work. I have had it so long I have completely forgotten the history on it. It's been under a work bench for 12 years.

The reason I ask is because I have a 208 that I was going to rebuild but is now a paper weight on the garage floor. If it would work I'd give it to RavE_Grasa since he is looking for one for his NP241.

Spoke to my guy that rebuilds transfer cases. He said the 208 fork would not fit with the 241. Luckily he had a fork laying around his shop. Thanks for the offer I appreciate It!

That's correct, they're totally different
By any chance do you know if The Np241 and Np208 both bolt up to the 700r4 or do they need different input shaft? I found a 700r4 that was mated to a 208. But I wanna bolt my 241 with out having to do any other work.
