I wanted to weld the V band clamps rings into the mufflers. I was trying to figure out how to line them up and hold them steady. My hands shake too bad to do it by hand.

Then I remembered that a friend gave me a HF tube expander. Worked great.

Great idea, if I welded tube or pipe more I would get a set of those vise grip tube clamps.

They only work on straight sections. If you try to clamp in a bend, no Bueno. They show connecting bends, but only with tangent sections on the bend. I made a set of those 20 years ago.

That's probably the only use they have.

I think some heat applied while expanding helps. I haven't had much luck even with so called top of the line brands we had at works

I am sure heat helps but it's supposed to work without.

Tried heat with a Snaon-on or Matco, can't remember which. Still sucked on good material. Kind of worked on some chinesium pipe, but was not really round.

I did weld mine with the back side and the clamp in place

I made sure the pipe end was good and square/flat. And the rings fit snug after.

That works! I use a hose clamp that I cut notches in to tack them in place, then I remove the hose clamp.

Search "exhaust welding clamps" on google. There's lots of styles available like what Heath uses. Definitely won't all do it how you figured out how to do it.

No impact, I didn't break, break it.
It just deformed under my strength, no impact needed.

I thought about doing that. But the tubing and outside diameter of the vband flange are different, the inside diameter is the same, so this was easy.

I bought some used mirrors a couple of weeks ago.
Finally swapped them. I had to make block off plates to cover the old bolt holes.
These are proof of concept. The right one is far from me. I may need to find a convex mirror to put on it.

Yep. I needed a flat base. Paid $10 for the pair. The visually seemed OK. I may order an aftermarket set just to get rid of the "Jeep" on the glass.

I'd imagine that visibility out of those is about the same as the "sport" mirrors on a squarebody. I ain't judging, I like 'em.
