ReTonkulous

Utlilmaster P30
I have not been able to check after the relay. I need a second person to cycle the ignition or crank it. Just the connector at the tank. And that is where I am getting the low voltage.

I had a thought, as I was drying off after my shower.

I had a set of rear lights that quit working. I found the ground wire had corroded inside the sheathing and failed. I think the fuel pump has that same wire for the ground.

I will find out tomorrow.
Thoughts like this are how I end up in the driveway in a towel at 10 pm

Did the jumper thing. 10.2 volts at the pump connector.

Then no voltage as I was testing it. Shook the connector, nothing. Put the ground probe on the send unit ground and I had 12.5 volts. Checked continuity on the ground wire to the sending unit ground. Nothing. Pulled the wire out, no continuity. The wire was corroded at both ends. When I pulled it out of the sheath, a 2 inch section stayed in the sheath. Junk wire. Replaced and all was good.

Check the ground first. It's always the ground.

So was this old original wiring i’m guessing?

The wire was given to me in Colorado by a guy I wired his experimental airplane. Yes, the same wire. I notified him earlier of what I have found. No worries though. The plane burned in a hanger fire.

I wonder if the plane started it.

The truck ran for about 5 minutes, then quit. No fuel pump again. Put the new one in and left it on the tank. It ran, did not when it was in the tank. Found the red/hot wire was broken just inside the tank. Not the sheathing, just the strands. Had corrosion in the strands. It was replaced also. Now I have 2 rolls of the good stuff in the truck.

I don't have any other critical systems on this stuff. I think some stuff in the dash may have it.

Thats crazy.

Oh btw the plane you rewired for me self immolated. Not something I want to hear.

Do you remember the brand of wire?
