ReTonkulous

Utlilmaster P30
I was just assuming that the things customized in the PCM are fewer than the number of settings specific to the engine. So you could do a compare with a stock 5.3 file and note the changes that were made. Then you lift the 6.2 engine "segment" from a 6.2 file and everything specific from that engine is copied in. This all requires that the tune in there and the tune you're copying from are the same OS. The end result is the same unless there are some settings that didn't get copied over.

Yeah that definitely sounds easier than what I was doing!

Good news. A friend who is the district manager for NAPA commercial in Tennessee recommended a shop locally. The owner responded within an hour of my original email and has all of the correct questions. I have a dyno day set up for September 9th.

He asked for a picture of what a P30 is.

This was his response. "Dude!! That is awesome!!"

Loaded the combination of Eddies last edit and mine. So much better. All of the exhaust backfire is gone. Running at 207* per the new thermostat and hose reroute. I had enough confidence in how well it is running to do a 50% throttle pull to 50MPH. Our roads here are 40-45 speed limit. Pulled so much better. There is still a lot more to go. But very drivable. Did not throw any codes in 10 miles.:woot:

Still running lean. 15:1+- on the remote gauge.

So glad that worked. I’m sure there’s a lot to be adjusted on the Maf scaling with your intake setup. Hopefully your dyno guy can do that for you. It means the world in these virtual torque engines

Well, your life would have been a whole lot easier if everything you got wasn’t wrong!
Correct.

Never use Swap Specialties for anything. There, I said it.

Another tuner has a bunch of my money that I paid for a TCM that did not work. He set up a time to do a remote tune for the funds. Came recommended by 2 people I know and trust. He did not call at the scheduled date and time. Then the next day, he set it up for the day after that. Nothing again. And will not respond now.

I wish I would have found these local guys originally. I hope they work out. I mean, it is stock, except for the headers and MAF location.

Now that I am on my laptop, I will add some info.

We measured the truck and the dyno to make sure it fit because, they thought the truck was too wide. The body makes it look that way. 82" outside tread width, 90" dyno roller. No big deal. The young man doing the dyno work just got back from LS Fest, so I got to hear about that. He had seen the Tonka on the Power Tour feed from 2 years ago and said he saw it on the Roadkill episode. Was excited to get to tune it. He is building 60's some Catalina with an LT4 in it for Power Tour next year.

I felt good dropping it off there. The rowdy stuff they were firing up to move out of the shop sounded nice.

He called today. Ask WTH did the original guy do? Rhetorically.

Took him an unlocked TCM because he does not trust anything. Wants to make sure the ECU talks with the TCM correctly.

I was able to chat with the owner for a bit. He followed me out. His dad drove an Olson-Grumman version of one of these delivering potato chips in the 80's. Was excited to send his dad a picture. With all of the cool stuff sitting in their parking lot, Maserati's, C8's, Shelby Mustangs and a bunch of LS swapped stuff, Retonkulous was getting more comments than any of them.:haha:

He saw the truck on Power Tour FB page and on the Roadkill episode for Power Tour. Almost all of his guys have taken a picture with it.

"Well cool, just make it run please."

Because, I could not tolerate your background noise. I could not think. You know I have problems driving and talking as it is. Somebody on an overhead head speaker in the background really screws with my brain.

Only a few close friends have noticed how I shut down if multiple conversations are going on around me. I can not track any of them.

Yeah that guy in the meat department liked to hear his own voice, that’s why I wandered outside to talk

I have that same issue, it’s hard to explain.

You took it to the right shop, I bet it exceeds your expectations.
