June 14th, Lucas Oil Raceway Park, Indianapolis, IN,

@Chickntrk

1400 miles round trip for me. Fugly needs a new heart by then.

Now that the dates have lit a fire under me, I need to decide on a new power plant.

Current one runs. The oil pressure is 340 PSI at 2500 RPM and 05 at idle. Not good. Pressure is great until it warms up. Not sure it would make another 1400 mile trip.

In the shop currently is a Gen 6 454 with unknown miles. Bought out of a running driving wrecked suburban from @fourxpete . I hope he chimes in here, because I do not remember the particulars.

Also the LT1/L86 out of a 20017 Chevy truck. That would be a lot more work to put in. I am not sure if I have the mentalm capability to do something like that again. I have reached out to @Fastereddie s friend who sticks those things into jeeps. Eddie posted a bunch of good info my 48 build thread that is now dead.

Talk me into something. I know what would be the best driver. Ease of install has to be considered.

The house is on hold do to the looming economy crash, so I will have more time. Need to finish the boat also. I have been working on it.

My vote goes to the l29.
Lots easier to put in and big block.
It's what I have in my suburban and I love it.

I agree with Ice, big block for big truck. And easy swap. The LT/genV’s are great, but it is a lot more work and they don’t make that low rpm grunt you would want in Fugly.

Do what you are comfortable with Wade, they are both good engines.

@mrk5 is currently putting an L29 in his crew cab, should be a nice runner, a simple cam and injector swap and a Holley computer to make it self tuning, should run nice and bolt right in.

I don't feel like a lightweight aluminum block L86 fits the theme in a big heavy wall of a truck. That should go in some lightweight street car.

Or a 8.1 with allison trans to get a all in 1 package and overdrive with extra gear to split and deeper 1st over th400 . There out there in 2wd and even c4500-c5500 with park brake on trans if you need that .
