ReTonkulous

Utlilmaster P30
I could not use the rear view mirror due to its size, distance from my face and the tint on the rear window. To much reflection.

Adding the side mirrors helped with watching behind me, but with my issues, I needed more.

I was looking at backup cameras and was not happy with the video quality and the delay. Especially if you used your phone for the screen. This is not what I wanted.

I came across this unit. A Wolfbox G850. Good reviews for the most part. Seems well built and not super cheesy. The clarity of the screen is great. I can see it easily and with it being 12" wide, it is almost twice as big as the stocker.

I wanted to mount the rear camera under the wing. The lead is only 20 feet. For most cars, probably ok. Not on ReTonkulous. The directions explicitly say not to shorten or lengthen the video feed wire. So I had to come up with another option. Made a mount and positioned it in the PowerTour sticker. It is 1" off of center. Cut a small hole in the tint. I think it will work.

This should be fun on the cruises. Has its own WIFI output to download to the phone. Says it is faster than Bluetooth.?

All of this tech in an old ugly truck. 6 computers total. Might just be more to fail.

Finally was able to check the MPG. The truck was leaning passenger side down, so it probably took a little extra. All local driving and might have had a few, ok, a lot, of spirited driving. The math says 12.7mpg. Much better than the 454 that was at 4.5mpg.
So what generation 454 was in there?
Because my 1998 454 gets me 12mpg in a reasonably aerodynamic vehicle so I am sure in your truck it wouldn't be as good.
I also know that the 8 speed will do much better than the 4 speed

Probably makes more power as well.

1980s peanut port with a stupid thumper cam. About as bad a combination could be. Th400 in a 5500 pound brick.

All 454's should be bored and turned into race engines. I like this small block.

Definitely the worst combination.

still better than my 8.1 nv4500 4.63 gear 8,400 lb truck gets around 9-maybe 10 empty .

I have been fighting vibrations on the truck. Had another shop rebalance the front tires. One was out 2.25oz. The other one is 3/16 warped/bent. Never going to be able to get that one correct.

Now the hunt is on for front wheels. I tossed 2 a couple of years ago.

You looking for the same ones you had? I have a set of 4 of those you can have

Anything steel. I was thinking of painting them black. Because the wheels are the only chrome on the truck.

Shipping them might be cost prohibitive.

New drive shaft is in. that vibration is gone.
New to me, front wheels are painted and on. Yes, I am a cheapo and spent $50 on 2 wheels, media blasted and painted them black.

I have a set of simulators for the rear. I will scuff and shoot those also.

It still has a small vibration that almost feels side to side. If I remember right, the tire guy said one rear wheel was bent.

Today I am cleaning up some wiring. Adding USB chargers. I put a keyed feed for the cameras. I was plugging them into the lighter port. Covering the aluminum dash. Getting the HVAC hoses hooked up. It is finally getting warm enough to charge the AC.

GM Tailgate Tour in 13 days.
