Richard's Funky Fire Truck

Bad lift pump maybe--or the sock in the fuel tank is clogging up with water or rust perhaps...or a rubber fuel line might be collapsing inside..might be pinholes in the steel fuel line somewhere too,my 6.2 pickup often wanted to die after I passed someone,or had to pull a steep hill until I ran a copper 3/8" tubing line all the way from the tank to the fuel filter on the firewall..

--after that it started much better, and faster, especially after it sat awhile, and hasn't bogged down like that again since,I can drive it 65 mph for miles with no problems....the steel lines were all flaky and had some wet spots on them--didn't "leak"or leave stains, but they were getting porous..air must have been getting sucked in during high load conditions..

It could be head gaskets too though,if its dense white smoke...if it doesn't lose coolant, maybe the CDR valve took a dump and is letting oil get drawn into the intake and burned..

I don't see a lack of fuel issue causing excessive smoke, so I'm still voting air issues. :dunno:

Aside from that, it sounds exactly like when I had a plugged fuel filter.

I'm betting on a clogged fuel filter.

Fire truck looks good though!

I can try a fuel filter next time I'm in Maine. That's easy enough.

I'd try the fuel filter and if you have the ability I'd back purge the fuel line with compressed air. If the truck has been sitting a while you could have a build of something blocking the fuel pickup in the tank. Doesn't take long for it to happen. My truck sat for a few months while dping the engine rebuild and after I started driving it again it suddenly had fuel issues. It ended up being a clogged fuel pickup tube. Was an easy fix once I found it.

I recall reading about some glass ball or BB "check valve" that goes in the injector pump return line that gave grief on some 6.2's --if the return line is restricted it'll shut down...maybe its half plugged up or something..that would probably cause a "flooding" condition too,if fuel cant get back to the tank perhaps?..

So what's with the Sami's? Are they a new wheeler project?

My buddy took the full bodied one. I'm taking the chassis and drivetrain. Anyway, the project with those is at least a year out, but the price was right. I'll start a new thread when things happen. Just picture tiny towable rock buggies with air shocks ;)

Here is a few of our pics from the dune party. We are not done going through them yet so we might end up having more. My bf said that this rig impressed him the most up there. Watch out if you ever wheel with Richard.......he will try to get you wet

As I mentioned in the Dune Party thread, I LOVE this truck.

It's awesome.

agreed, the white tube doors look good with the truck, and Richard made some cool mirror mounts as well!

Good thing I did too, or I would have missed this excellent Kodak moment.
