RJFguitar's resto-mod - went offroad

Well, I finally scored the seats I have been wanting.

I had looked at 3 different sets of seats that I found on Craigslist, first was a set of black leathers out of an Acura, WAY too petite for a full size and they were in crappy shape. Second, a full set of seats out of an '02 Burb. The owner took pics of the seats at night, which made them look charcoal black, when I asked, owner said "yeah, they are super dark gray, basically black...." I get there and the seats are slate gray.:sign7:

Then there were these..... as they say, third time is the charm. Black leather buckets out of an early 2000's C class Mercedes.:pimp: They are in near perfect shape and hug me really well, which is what I was looking for. Something more sporty than the old blazer seats, but not to petite where they look goofy and are uncomfortable in a full size.

They are going to be pretty easy to adapt to my floorpan, and they are half power, half manual. I still don't have a plan on the rear seat, I doubt I could make the C class rear work because it's not an assembly, and it's 54" wide, but I am thinking that possibly a good apholstery guy could use the leather from it and do my stock blazer rear seat with the material.

Oh, and I talked the guy down to $200 for everything.

Freakin nice seats man!Im really interested to see how all the felts you rogered turn out. When this is all said and done, it would be awesome if you documented what parts you got from which company and whether or not they were any good. For example, im told the blazer top seals from lmc are garbage but i wonder what else is good and not. I suppose teck could do about the same.

I did already re-felt my K30's windows last week. Everything came from classic parts and seem to be very good quality. I did not however, do the vent window seals on my K30, but I will be doing them on my K5.

Got my new bed panels back from an upholstery guy. I'm not sure if I like them or not. Plus, more seat pics, pretty much got the fitment figured out and will start on the adapter brackets soon.

The seats look good and the side panels don't look bad in the pics.
Yup got my top seals from LMC on one of my first orders not real impressed with them will probably change them for something better when get it finished.

I got all my wires organized and taped down and ready to be covered with carpet.

Next came the first layer of insulation, then the carpet. There was no trimming hardly at all with the carpet kit and was super easy to install. We were prepared for a full day's work, since the carpet kit that we just put in my 3+3 was a pain in the butt.

Ok, so I am planning to make a beer run into town on Sunday with the K5 for it's maiden voyage. That is my goal.:thumb:

I am going to try like hell to get this thing put back together by Sunday afternoon. I really need to, to at least stop and put some gas in it, as it hasn't seen fresh gas in 3 years (did add stabil).

pics, the exterior is finished and interior is 90% done at this point. I spent most of the day cruising around.

Looks good. I like how the paint stands out but doesn't scream NOT OEM! like some of the brighter colors.

Yeah, and that is why I went with a GM factory color. Same for the interior, I tried to get everything painted black properly, so that an unknowing person would just think it came from the factory in black, not knowing it wasn't an option.

The Mercedes seats.... well, the factory seats just suck, something had to be done there.:haha:

I hear you on the seats. I scored some dirty but great shape seats out of a '90 K5 that was turned into a show truck. SO MUCH BETTER than the worn out 190k seats they replaced. However they still aren't wonderful...at all. Some newer GM seats, race buckets, SOMETHING is going to replace them eventually.

Backseat is done and got the stereo all finished. I built a new en-closer that houses my (3) 10's and both my amps including wiring. The idea is that less space is taken up and the amps/subs are not in view for a 5 finger discount.
