Rumble Bee. (Getting cannibalized for the greater good)

All nighter? Dang and I though you were an old guy!

Lol... Was an all nighter because I worked last night. Took it there because tools :waytogo:. The press was and pullers we're a lifesaver.

And parts washer, HUGE 3/4 drive 6' torque wrench, etc....

I have LOTS of down time:waytogo:. Even watched a movie and a half afterwards.

I also took some measurements and found that I do have a 1350 Ujoint. So I can get that too here soon.

And yes I'm an old guy...... :doah: 40 man.

I found a guy a few hrs from me with a bunch of 14b ff's for sale. I'm going to see it he has a decent one that's open with 4.56s. then I can just buy gears for the front and a Detroit for both.

An open 4.56 will likely be found in a dually cab and chassis version. Not sure 4.56 were ever offered in srw trucks except government versions, but if you do find a govmint one, it oughtta have a detroit already...

All of the 6.2 k30 trucks i have had have been 4.56 single wheel open diffs.

Interesting. Learn something new ever day I guess...

Not sure about the srw ones.... I would think they we're offered. But :dunno:

I got the G80 out. And found that one of the clutch guide clips is trying to escape. Not sure if I should leave it as is, or attempt to disassemble and fix it . Not sure I like that idea much.

Also kind of wondering what my special fancy metallic diff lube may have done to it..

Is there a GOOD way to get all of the metallic muck and chit out of the axle tubes? I have about a 1/4"-1/2" deep swath of metallic nasty resting in the bottom of each tube. About the consistency of peanut butter.

All I can think of is brake cleaner and lots of hrs of tedious BS

I have always used one of these at work. I fill an empty antifreeze jug with clean solvent from the parts washer and then stick the suction hose down in it and use compressed air to wash down the housing until it's almost all the way clean and finish off with brake clean. Might be cheaper and easier to just get a case of brake clean that's on sale and go to town.

That's what I figured is at least a case.

I have built a mini shovel. Just a bent piece of steel usually hammered roughly to match the radius of the tube.

If it's that bad though. Pull the axle and pressure wash. Local car wash works well

I was thinking of the mini shovel thing... I was sort of thinking of bolting a big washer that barely fits through the spindle, on to the end of a piece of all thread... Kind of was thinking of that during a half nap a bit ago. And I wasn't thinking of a pressure washer, but I have access to a portable one to take up there.

Think I'll try a combo of mini shovel, toilet brush, and degreaser.

Do you guys see any reason to one the G80? Or leave it and see?

They are pretty simple to take apart.

I'd take it apart look for obvious breaks and if none. Put it back in. It's better than an open diff and in a 14 bolt they seem to survive just fine

Yeah I planned on giving it a chance. That guide clip only bothers me a little. More worried about it coming all the way out and messing all the bearings up again... And kind of wondering why it's loose

Eh... Not too many parts lol. It's all apart now though

Only issue I've found is one spider won't come off. And I got some thin metal shaving type pieces out from between it and the shaft. Spins good. But a tad looser than the other 2

Unfortunately the ring wasn't as fortunate as the pinion. Run it I guess though. Don't ha e me check choice at this point
