Running 35x15.5 on 1/2 ton axels and 3.08 gears? Bad Idea?

dude quit freaking out :) Just go look at them...if its a 14ff and w/e front end (10b/d44) just get them.
Like I said in the PM baseline price is about $500...thats what I got my 3/4 tons for and they had 4.10's so if they are needing a rebuild go $375-$400ish...if they are fine go $500 or so and if they are in perfect condition maybe he'll want a little more but I wouldn't go too much higher.
It'll be easy to spot..remember that axle identification chart I posted a link to earlier? Just learn the shapes...circle with 14 bolts is 14sf...crazy shape with 14 bolts is 14ff (plus you'll see the hubs sticking out with the bolts in the ends to hold the axle shafts in on the 14ff)...its really not that hard to spot.

3/4 ton will be 14ff/8 lug 10b, 14ff/8 lug d44 or there is the possibility of getting a 14sf/8 lug 10b etc. like we were talking about earlier...but most likely its one of the first two.

Ok I wrote him again asking him to idenify which axles he has before I make the hour trip. Heres what I wrote...

Before I make a trip out to you, id like to identify the 3/4 ton axles you have. Can you take a look at these and tell me which one is it that you have? THANKS !!

1. GM CORPORATE 14-BOLT
The "small" GM 14-bolt has a 9 1/2-inch ring gear diameter. It was used in the rear of 1964-and-late GM pickups, and in the rear of 1984-91 3/4-ton Suburbans.

2.FORD 10.25-INCH
Ford's biggest axle comes with semi-floating shafts in 1983-and-newer F-250s, and as a full-floater in F-250HDs and F-350s. Applications are similar to the big GM 14-bolt and the Dana 70.

3. GM CORPORATE 14-BOLT
With a 10 1/2-inch-diameter ring gear, the biggest 14-bolt GM rearend looks much like a Dana 70, and is but a few thousandths of an inch shorter in ring gear diameter. This axle is commonly used with big engines and/or overly large tires. It was used under 1973-87 3/4-tons.

He wants $500 but I think hes negotiable, what should I offer or should I look for a 14-bolt FF with a 10.5?

yeah its a 14sf...pass on it...if you are going to do it just wait until a 14ff/8 lug 10b or 14ff/8 lug d44 comes along that has 4.10's already in them.

Dammit, lol. I was really hoping these were the right ones.. Oh well, I will wait.. Thanks guys

that ebay auction i posted is pretty sweet deal, the 11.5 is very expensive if you ever have to rebuild. but that guy doesnt realize what he has. i think he is under-priced. that's about what i would pay for a decent 10.5" that has been pretty much gone thru.

So thats just the read axle? dont I need both? He says he will ship but I have to arrange freight, how do I go about that? Ive never had sothing shipped that large before, how much will it cost I wonder? Shoud I buy it now and pay whatever it costs to ship it?

IMO don't worry about getting that 11.5...$$$ wise its not worth it especially for what you are currently running or will ever run for that matter.
Just wait and find a 3/4 ton setup.

Should I only look for GM or will jeep axles and ohers work as well?

first one never says if its 8 lug and his "locker" unit might be a gov-bomb...

second one again...never says whether its 6 or 8 lug...

third guy is on crack...even if it has been rebuilt...plus its 4.56's so you'd have to re-gear your rear that you find...assuming you don't find a 4.56 14ff but even so 4.56's and 35's w/o OD would suck. Oh and its setup for high-steer so you'd end up spending more $$$ for parts to get it setup on your truck and iono if your lift would even clear the setup...we were talking about this before and I think guys were saying that its about a 4" minimum for x-over.
