Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Beautiful steps, exactly or nearly exactly like I meant. You won't use them too often, but man they will be helpful when you do.

:thumb:

and IMO, it finishes off that front corner perfectly... I'm glad, visually, that driverside is done.. the ps not being finished doesn't bother me now...

doghouse is burnished and ready for install.. 2 more pieces of alum and I'm done....

That fill corner looks really nice. The extinguishers look good mounted there, too, but I'm not crazy about them being out there. 1) Their valves don't really like being exposed to the weather; expect them to go bad often. We keep extinguishers in the trunk of our patrol cars and they have to be replaced every couple years whether they're used or not. 2) I'd be worried about someone stealing them and/or setting them off. I guarantee that some knucklehead would pull the pin and fire one of them off if you parked that thing any way around here.

Just my .02.

yeah, but I don't live in the worst town in joysey... ;)

as I've said, I'm not concerned about theft/vandals... the rig is never far from me..

I have considered making some slip over covers to protect them from the elements.. I have eleventy marine canvas guys that could do some sort of slip-over red vinyl covers for em easy enough, maybe even match the Ryoken red... maybe a Velcro strap or something on the bottom..

OUCH. lol

Covers would be good, either Ryo red or black:thumb:

the camden "effect" has wide reaching tentacles... :doah: :haha:

black may be better, a bit more understated.....

Exactly what I was thinking, less for the casual eye to see but there for someone really looking. Plus it would make them wonder if they were remote NOS tanks to help w/ the 6 wheel burnouts.

BTW, what kind of extinguishers? I'd keep one dry chem and one CO2.

I'm running 2 5lb Purple K's.. that's a BC unit, not an ABC... better on metal components.

it's funny you brought this up today, our fire extinguisher guy for the marina was in today..... i was BSing with him.. he says halon is the way to go for clean, "save your chit"auto options.... but being i was storing em outside, it was too pricey an option... about $200 a 5 lb'er... oh, and they are Amerex units I have.. the fire guy said they make nice stuff.. badger too...

Halon is expensive because they're not allowed to make it any more. It's bad for the ozone (damn CFCs). All available halon is being recycled to be refilled, like freon. Halotron has replaced it. Halotron is half as effective as halon so you'd need bigger bottles. Only reason I recommended CO2 is because the dry chem doesn't get into cracks as well as a gas. I started a fire under my Ds floorboard when I was cutting out the rusty floor w/ a plasma cutter. I cut through the wire harness next to the frame and the plastic wrapping started burning a little. The dry chem wouldn't get through the little slit I just cut in the floor to put out the fire. I had to hit it w/ the CO2 to stop it before something really started burning. Of course, cleaning up the dry chem powder is a PITA too.

I know I'm a little late, been busy, but the extinguisher mounts and steps are pretty fecking sweet! Nice work dudemanPaul!

thanks mang.... the rig's back together pretty much for the show sat.. just need to put the flaps back on, maybe clean the interior a bit..

here's what a nutjob I am... :screwy: decided to resto my 25 yr old floor jack (it deserved the luv after yrs of faithful abuse) for putting in the lower box, and paint it a matching Ryoken red to the rig... :doah: :haha:

I love restos on tools - esp older floorjacks and vises. Should be cool (of course would be cooler if it was older - but it fits with the truck :) )

basically, it was just a repaint... threw it in the blast cab, than zinc'd it and shot it in RR and flat black... didn't even take it apart....

here it is in the box......

ok, since it involves Mutt, might as well put all the car show pics in here..... pretty big turnout.. I'd guess there was around 200 to 250 cars....

Mutt was a pretty big hit... lot's and lot's of compliments and questions.... but I still got a fair amount of book reading time too.. I was there from 8:30 to 4:30...

don't think I won anything, I missed the awards while talking to someone about the rig... maybe they'll list em on FB or something..

but I did catch the last one, which was the "cops fave 4x4" one.. some seriously ghey heep won... it was painted like Ronald McDonald in red and yellow with chrome stuff on it... must have been one of their girlfriends or something... it may be in the background of one these pics. i'll look as I load em... but it truly was ghey...

anyway, here's a bunch of pics in no particular order.......
