Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

props to SideTracked for getting a new light out to me ASAP... hopefully I can get it back together saturday...

brought the tablesaw home.. time to slice up some alum next week.... better make sure I got wire for the spoolgun....

Whatcha working on?

the slide-out bat tray...

have it mostly figured out..

just not sure what i want to do for latching at this point... I'm thinking of using the same latches as the drawers above... but i would have to pilfer them from the uninstalled drawer, and replace those down the road... i've never seen them so i will prolly just call the drawer company...

that also means i'd be adding a front wall to the tray.. the walls will be 2" to 3".... about 1/2 as high as the drawers...

full

i also think I have a solution for routing the cable to the box outside... gonna run the same watertight fittings i run on the K5.. i actually have them already for 1/0 cable.... just gonna run them out the upper rear corner of the forward wall.. not out the back....

smaller versions of these....

You build that air cleaner base? Or buy it?

That's cool, where did you find that foam? McMaster?

iirc, it was actually just the foam that Moroso sells for their airpan, but I'll take a peak when i get home from work and double-check...... i'm certain mcbible has many similar ones...

soooooo.. just a bit of a boring update on.... schtuff.....

got a full day in yesterday, first in quite a while... installed the new SideTracked light, thanks to him for taking care of it... worked on smoothing/cleaning the block a bit...

more importantly I spent some time and finalized the plans/measurements for the bat tray and started whacking out the pieces on the tablesaw... the actually surface area of the tray is 25" x 16.5..... the walls will be 2.5" high.... holding off on final layout/mounting of components till I get the switches, ACR and some cable..

I know basically where everything is going, but cable routing needs to be taken into consideration for final positioning... maybe some pics later.. gonna try to get the tray fitted up and tacked together today... it will also be a single low-wall, bat retainer on the tray for the 2 bats.. as opposed to 2 individual ones... also one hold down system for both....

on a life note...

yesterday was a bit of forced therapy for me... I've been gone all day the last 8 days, 3 hr's of driving daily..... my Dad was sent home from the hospital on hospice, to pass at home... so I've been out helping mom every minute I can... she insisted I take a couple days off...

Kai is sad, lot's of alone time.... :(

this could be a couple days, weeks, we don't know.. but until then, I can't justify staying home on winter layoff... thurs I start making the daily runs out there again to help whatever way I can......

oh, saw this sexay setup... would be tits with the Cummins tan I'm gonna run...

https://www.cvfracing.com/black-dia...r-cummins-diesel-ac-alternator-all-inclusive/

8 groove as opposed to 6.... I actually wanna run another pulley in front and 2 more clutched components on the ds..

oh, hey, anyone here running that first gen fan hub/sec gen clutch setup up front?

I am but it's in a Ford. @Cruz89K5 just mentioned in his thread that he was going to try to run it.

yeah, i read about it a while back... I definitely want to retain the mechanical... just wanna see what that does with dampener to fan room... viewed from the side...

time to go make chaff.... ;)

Sorry to hear about your dad. Be glad you've got a good enough relationship that you at least see him. Give Kai as much love as you can, he's used to you being around all day. Sure it's tough on him.

thanks mang, preciate it... I've come to terms with it, just worried sick about my mom... at 85, it's a lot to deal with...

sooooo thankful for blackies 4.3 right now... I'd be spending $400 a week on fuel in Mutt... :doah:

me thinks I need a dizzle.... ;)

I'm ready for the ME-109's should they attack the LAB™.......

here's the basic tray config, other than it will sit up a 1/2" higher on the slide... the flange on left and right will bolt down thru the existing floor bolts on either side..

the reason the mounts stick further out in the front is so the latches can engage them for the tray... i love the fact I'm carrying over the latch type.. think that's a nice build detail...

oh, and I'm glad I went for the side mount... pretty sure the bats will be mounted all the way out by the door.. this will allow me to run winch solenoids on the sidewall in the back, and a sub panel on the other.. so the bats wont hit them sliding in/out......

gonna start working on a semi-official schematic tonight... and it will start with this...

everything came from a 4x8 sheet.. all joints will be welded....

edit.... sheesh, i'm missing that fancy schmancy camera already..
