Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Never really understood what exactly a 'reman' ecu would be. Do they actually replace the board level components, and test the traces or do they just clean it and plug it in and if it responds it's 'reman'..?

I'm guessing it gets tested, any bad components get replaced, than the unit is tested again... have to swap the PROM over iirc...

I can't believe I'm about to throw a carb on this rig... :doah: it goes against everything I stand for.. :haha:

need/want the rig back up and running... hopefully I can recoup a fair bit of the parts cost when i pull/sell the motor..

oh, that 89 should be peanut ports right?

Are you sure it's the tbi and not the ignition?

What is the knocking noise going on with the starter?

Neither, It's fuel on startup... the ecm wont fire the injectors till it sees 400 rpms... thus why you ether it and it lights right off...

The pickup sends the slow signal to the module and that is supposed to have the ecm fire them once it goes thru it's checks and light the ses light.. but it never lights the ses light or sends the grd to the injector to open...

Generally it would be a bad module doing this, but I've tested it with that out of the loop and the injectors still won't fire.. new ecm and all fuses are good.. it sounded like chit cuz the battery is nearly dead. I have 1 I'm gonna swap in tomorrow...

A low battery is no way to diagnose a fuel injection engine.
Start with a good charge and see if it is still the same.
I would do anything to not go to carburetor.
I have no problem with a carbureted engine but not a fuel injection brought back to carburetor.
I know you are fed up.
We've all been there, just don't give up.

fixed..... that's a month long, $250 fug up..... forgot to put the bat to rad support grd back on after the clutch... :doah: weird result....

ok, now I'm gonna be in a mad rush the next month for the car show... :saweet: Mutt's currently a MESS! :doah:

Glad it was something simple after all!!

it usually is... :doah: and i should know that being a marine mech.... i had just been thinking this morning how it seemed like the ECM was losing grd.... well, duh! :haha:

on the brightside, i just found out you can cram a grp 27 where the factory #24 goes, and use the factory holddown....

i've got a ton of cleaning, bed reassembly to get to.... but sooper stoked.....

I thought you could put a group 31 in there.
Maybe my memory is getting bad.
I know you can put the bigger battery of the 2 similar design, it's only longer everything else is the same dimension.
I even put it in my s15 Jimmy, it barely fit between the radiator and the fender but I got it in there.
On the squares you have plenty of room

You see, I told you don't give up.
Happened to me in the 74 k5, converted to tbi.
One day it wouldn't start, nothing no ignition at all followed the wiring and checked everything, even the inline fuse, then I found another inline fuse in a hidden area that was blown.
Took me a month to find it.

thanks... a 31 would prolly work too, it's the same as a 27 or 24, just longer....

stoked... just gave Mutt a good bath... debating whether to try and and bang out the dainty drawer light install fab work now, or just throw it back together for the show and do that later..

we'll see.. just very pleased this evening that it's back up and running...

:saweet: Sabbath.

Apologies for what?
Glad you found it and said what it was.

Things that seem simple after the fact have cost many headaches for the best of the best.

thanks... ;) i do it often at work, sucking up some blame i don't deserve.. it's all good.. i have zero problems critiquing my work... it's my life.. and have no prob picking out my shortcomings.... it only makes me better... I will defend my idiocy with, it was super late on a a sunday. was plowing thru final hookups and lighting her off at 9 pm... a mild start in the morn may have alleviated the issue... :doah:

oh, shit is ON now... ;)
