Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

No problem they work pretty sweet and take up not much space. Just installed the round version last night and works good so far. I believe it is the same size of standard small gauges but didn't try it.

yeah, i've installed tons of round ones in the boats.. but round chit is always wierd in a rig, fitting-wise.. that's poifect...

damn glovebox latch thing is gonna having me turn the house inside out... :angry1: at least it's helping me find all kinds of neat 80's hotrod stuff... :haha:

well, I never thought I'd say this, but I'm thinking of getting Mutt personalized plates this spring.. never had em before.. but it's surprisingly only $50...

what’s the yearly renewal? I don’t have personalized plates, but I got one of those vanity plate things that sponsored Lake Tahoe for the burb. Didn’t realize I was stuck making the $60 donation every year going forward.

Yep, at least in California it is.

I'm pretty certain that only applies to specialty plates with the pic thingy on the left.. like this..

afaik, it's just standard reg renewal every yr after the $50.. my boss has ones on his Sequoia that are so old they are the old colors... ABOAT4U and he's WAY too cheap to pay some ongoing fee....

now i have to figure out 4 possibilities.. and hope no one has it already... ideally, I would just like MUTT perfectly centered in the plate... but it's 7 spaces...

obviously i could start the word anywhere, and i'm sure one would be available.. but i'm also trying to keep my mind open to things that space better.. maybe MUTT6BT or similar... MUTT 5.9 magic marker a point in there :haha: MUTTFTW

I don't know, just started constempating it last night.. I think the rig is worthy of it...

Quit pilfering the k5 damnit!

:D

i did, i did! :haha: that bezel is staying with that rig... I'm gonna try a bit different build with this one... Ryoken bezel v 2.0

and I have enough composite kicking around that I don't even have to hack up a K5 back panel, or the 1/2 built tool wall... :p

* Ryoken - playing with cardboard *

so, I'm bouncing around on a few different projects right now.. the bezel, the switch panel to the right, welding the dash up, etc...

as for the bezel.. correction, it'll be 15 pieces... ;)

there were a few things in the original bezel that I wasn't particularly happy with, mainly in mounting, and some angles..

while the 4 corner holes really can't be changed and are vital, I changed the 2 mounting locations by the column.. i also doubled up the center section and recessed for the column screws in the back one for a much more stable platform... this will all get lammed together first with thickened resin.. than it will be ground and tabbed on both sides...

basically I'll be building the dash in 2 pieces.. that lower section, than the top...

here's the first 3 pieces for the top 1/2...

tomorrow I do the first glass work...

I also decided I'm gonna make an insert for the right side out of 1/4" Alum.. gonna start work on that tomorrow... the annoying part is the curved end dealio... carry over that blocked burnished deal to the interior..

while the plastic one will suffice for now, I did take the right side vent out and put smoked plexi in it so it looks good...

I just hate the flimsyness of the whole piece.. 1 of the speednut posts was broken off when i got it, and the others aren't stellar... not sure how many times they'll survive a speednut being installed.. i'd rather have a 1/4" alum with 1/4-20 studs sticking out the back...

.

Not keeping the dash vent for the A/C? Or just relocating it?

no dash vents.. floor/defrost... no room in the bezel with all the gauges... and since the middle dash one now has switches in it, just having one on the right would have been stoopid.. plus, I'm imagining it will make the Vintage Air easier to install... I just hope i can reuse the factory defrost Y........

looking at the magnum kits, it appears they supply defrost fittings and round hose.. and it looks like 2 round dash vents...

really need to get this ASAP.... by june..... need to pay down the CC first...

That's gonna look awesome.

I'm hoping to have a bit more room around the gauges this time... sh*t's tight tho with the 2 5/8"........ but it will have a bit more angle correction.. deeper.. it will be more perpindicular to the column...

here's the next piece of the puzzle.......

next will be the 2 end triangle pieces....

setting that 90* corner angle with the high tech paper towel adjustment method.... ;)

you can see it's sharpied at the point I need to trim the front facia down to....

the corners are literally right next to the screw clips...

some random babble about stuff going on...

now that I'm making an alum dash insert, that brings up an interesting thing..... the dash is a complete blank slate as to how i run switches, etc.. other than the bat switches... I could leave the whole insert, raw sanded alum, if i run the switches elsewhere... so one thing I'm working thru is total potential switch lists for down the road...

while I'm keeping the rig very simple with the 6BT, I'm trying to be thorough in potential add-ons... throttle control, compressor, welder, lighting, etc...

bezel
_____

1 - wipers - low/hi
2 - wiper washer
3 - lights - park/head
4 - fwd light bar
5 - interior lights floor/ceiling
* 6 - underhood lighting
* 7 - compressor clutch

bed lighting
__________

8 - rotators/wig wags
9 - work lights
10 - white/amber spot
11 - drawer
12 - underbody
* 13 - hitch pod light

for people who have the 5.9 swap, does the NV4500 shifter get moved back at all from the 465? where it comes thru the floor? :ears:

just found this one... it's 2wd and looks like gasser, but.. it does look like the tower is back some from a 465.. maybe 4 to 6".....
